Pffft, big deal. They have oodles of ancient skeletons sitting upright in the US. It's called Congress!! Heyooooooooo!

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

It would be funny if it wasn't the truth.

“Being an archaeologist can be a very frustrating profession,” she added.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Came to post that. Ouch.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephine_Baker

Found near the Josephine Baker school.

For the Americans who weren't taught their own history.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago

TBF it seems most of her history in the US was in entertainment and wearing a skirt made of fake bananas. Not really required learning. Her real activity seems to have taken place in France working with the French Resistance and civil rights, and unfortunately her civil rights work here was overshadowed by MLK.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Not . . . sure that’s how history works tho

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -3 points 11 hours ago

Now if you can figure out why a great American's work MOSTLY happened in France, you might actually understand why you didn't learn about her in school.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Don’t think you’re catching me out. It was understood the instant I read about her. TF is wrong with you, you go straight to being insulting.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -2 points 10 hours ago

Sorry you feel insulted by being observed for what you are. Maybe be something better instead?

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

What the F. For what I am? Blocked. What is it with Lemmy the last couple days and these deliberately insulting assholes?

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -2 points 10 hours ago

Have you considered the possibility that you are just a moron?

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 2 points 10 hours ago

Maybe be something better instead?

Maybe take your own advice?

You were insulting in tone when you didn't have to be. That's from an unbiased observer.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -3 points 10 hours ago

Sorry, I already got my full ration of feedback from morons today. Try again tomorrow?

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 3 points 10 hours ago

Why? Are you that desperate for validation?

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -2 points 10 hours ago

You seem really interested in having your opinion heard so I was giving you an avenue to share it. You certainly don't have to. I am not in charge of how you want to spend your time.

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 10 hours ago

Sorry, I already got my full ration of feedback from morons today. Try again tomorrow?

Reminds me an old story.

Two monks live on opposite sides of a lake.

One day the monk on the East bank sends the other a letter. "I am firm and unmovable. I am like a boulder with my roots set deep in the Earth."

West bank sends back a note. One word. "Fart."

Enraged, the East bank monk climbs into his boat and rows across to demand satisfaction.

West bank meets him with a smile. "You claim to be firm and unmovable, but I can get you to fly across the lake with a single fart."

In other words, you funny

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -1 points 9 hours ago

See, you have a lot of things to think about submitting for tomorrow!

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 1 points 8 hours ago

That's the best you can come up with?

Going to a rule you already broke?

You just aren't worthy of my attention.

And when I say I'm done, I'm done.

I know it's not funny or clever, but you just aren't worth the minor effort.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social -1 points 8 hours ago

So glad I merit so much effort from you!

[-] its_prolly_fine@sh.itjust.works 3 points 13 hours ago

Wow, she was an amazing person. Thank you for drawing attention to our deficit

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

Glad to see the youth getting involved with science...

Children at a primary school in eastern France found a strange attraction next to their playground this week: a skeleton sitting upright, peeking out of a circular pit.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Call off Scoob and the gang, we found our suspects!

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

The Egyptians had no word for dying, they just said “going West”.

Not sure how true that is, but i remember it for whatever reason.

[-] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 2 points 11 hours ago

Given that most/many ancient cultures had a good handle on astronomy, it would make sense if they associated west with death. Since the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, it makes some logical sense to associate the east with beginnings of things and the west with endings

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 2 points 11 hours ago

"A good handle on astronomy" in this context meaning: observing which in direction the sun goes down.

[-] teft@piefed.social 4 points 15 hours ago

I mean, if i lay down for hours at a time i gotta sit up to stretch every now and then so i get it.

About

Archaeology or archeology[a] is the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. The archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts or ecofacts, sites, and cultural landscapes.

Archaeology has various goals, which range from understanding culture history to reconstructing past lifeways to documenting and explaining changes in human societies through time.

The discipline involves surveying, excavation, and eventually analysis of data collected, to learn more about the past. In broad scope, archaeology relies on cross-disciplinary research. Read more...
