I'm continually surprised how little that guy minces his words.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 months ago

Same. Most (tech) Youtubers love nothing more than fence sitting.

[-] beetus@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

It's been refreshing as of late

[-] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago

It's been tried at least 3 times.

Austin Tucker Martin. Happened just a few days ago. Unless you missed one of the previous two. One in Butler, PA, and another one around Mar-a-Lago I think.

[-] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

They swept the most recent one under the rug fast.

Yeah, there was no narrative. It was a Trump supporter, who mainly supported him to release the Epstein Files. So when he realized that Trump is majorly implicated in them, and is one of those Billionaire pedophiles, he tried to take matters into his own hands, so to say.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 2 months ago

So far all of his would be assassins have been his own supporters. It's almost like railing up a bunch of idiots who worship guns, and then subsequently pissing them off, was a bad idea.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Right, I already forgot about him. Wow.

[-] Xylian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

How lucky can fascist assholes be? Adolf Hitler survived 42 times... Only the last one not... killed by himself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_attempts_on_Adolf_Hitler

We can only hope Trump dies on age soon and the republicans lose due to that follower and power.

[-] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 1 points 2 months ago

Wow, thanks, I didn't even know this. I only knew of Operation Valkyrie.

[-] bless@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

3 were missed. Keep up :p

You really trust those polls? They're still done by landline telephone in the US, for fuck's sake.

[-] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 months ago

Not anymore. Trump's rating got too bad, so Gallup stopped doing them.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 2 months ago

So the polls are exclusively done by my parents. I don't know anyone who still has a landline except then.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 months ago

They could shoot him in the middle of 5th Avenue and we'd find the assassin innocent.

[-] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

He'd probably go along with it if everyone just kept congratulating him or praising him for such a selfless sacrifice, coup de bugs bunny

[-] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

He wouldn't because he literally doesn't understand the meaning of the word sacrifice. He was asked in the 2016 campaign what he has sacrificed for America and he replied that he created jobs.

[-] lohky@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

How deep will the guillotine grooves be?

[-] Fokeu@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago

Both are probably fake as fuck

[-] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone -3 points 2 months ago

that's like quoting the approval rating of putin or kim jong un

[-] jaek@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago

Look, I'll agree that the US has abysmal press freedom, but they're not quite at the level of Russia or NK yet.

"During the cold war, the anticommunist ideological framework could transform any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence. If the Soviets refused to negotiate a point, they were intransigent and belligerent; if they appeared willing to make concessions, this was but a skillful ploy to put us off our guard. By opposing arms limitations, they would have demonstrated their aggressive intent; but when in fact they supported most armament treaties, it was because they were mendacious and manipulative. If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime's atheistic ideology. If the workers went on strike (as happened on infrequent occasions), this was evidence of their alienation from the collectivist system; if they didn't go on strike, this was because they were intimidated and lacked freedom. A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them. If communists in the United States played an important role struggling for the rights of workers, the poor, African-Americans, women, and others, this was only their guileful way of gathering support among disfranchised groups and gaining power for themselves. How one gained power by fighting for the rights of powerless groups was never explained. What we are dealing with is a nonfalsifiable orthodoxy, so assiduously marketed by the ruling interests that it affected people across the entire political spectrum."
