sales =/= quality

Hence why taylor swift is a billionaire.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 7 hours ago

How do you know an album’s gender?

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Woman albums cost 12% less.

[-] underscores@lemmy.zip 47 points 14 hours ago

I was sharing music with a friend and their reaction upon being shown an artist (not even listening) was "ew less than 100k monthly listens”

bro? is this your metric for good music ? how many people listen to it on Spotify ?

if this is how avg ppl see music it explains a lot about top 40 charts

[-] nile_istic@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago

Funny, cuz lots of the ones who say "ew less than 100k listens" will also say they're not into pop music. Wondering what they think "pop" is short for lmao

[-] M137@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago

It's sadly a very common thing and applies to just about everything. "It's not popular so it's automatically bad", I'm just glad I'm not forced to be around people like that too often.

[-] MonkRome@lemmy.world 1 points 1 minute ago

My mother in law used to refuse to eat in an empty or nearly empty restaurant. On the logic that if it's empty it must be bad. Never mind that the reason a restaurant is empty often has more to do with location than quality, or that it's packed for dinner and empty at lunch or vice versa.

[-] natebluehooves@pawb.social 1 points 10 minutes ago

this is also why vote manipulation is a thing. people are prejudiced by the appearance of a consensus.

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

I remember getting made fun of in middle school for listening to Nevermind, you know just a landmark in rock music because it was at the time almost 10 years old. Sigh.

[-] plyth@feddit.org 2 points 7 hours ago

So what are the names of the albums for those who want to verify?

[-] 0ops@piefed.zip 102 points 16 hours ago

I don't listen to music with a calculator

TOOL fans in shambles

[-] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 15 hours ago

Mathcore: Am I a joke to you?

[-] pbjelly@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago

Aw, I like Laufey 😭😭

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

It just came out, which probably why it's not on here, but I really enjoyed The Spinning Wheel by Mediæval Bæbes

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago
[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 1 points 10 hours ago

I've been listening to them since I found their first album at the ren faire, haha

[-] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 38 points 19 hours ago

What makes an album "female"?

[-] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 27 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

This was easier to figure out with CDs /s

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago

All CDs have holes. None of them have penises.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 17 points 17 hours ago

Yeah, but then they tried going all woke in the late 90s with the CD-RW stuff and data reassignment procedures.

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Wait until you hear what they did to serial cables.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

RadioShack needed to be shut down for providing so many male-to-female adapters

[-] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

"The drives! They're making the CDs gay!"

[-] lime@feddit.nu 3 points 19 hours ago
[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 16 points 18 hours ago

If she covers her CD case when you talk to her, she's a female album.

[-] jeanofthedead@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

Who’s the top right one?

[-] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

Man, I don't know shit about modern music evidently.

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 13 hours ago

I too, am old now.

[-] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago

Personally the more popular an artist or band is, the less likely I'll enjoy their music.

This is broadly speaking and not universal, there are big exceptions like radiohead, massive attack, aphex twin, BICEP and tool, but for the most part, if something is in the charts, I'm probably going to hate it

[-] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 15 points 18 hours ago

Everyone tastes like something

[-] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 18 hours ago

Putting Man's Best Friend and Life of a Showgirl on the same level is slander

[-] wavebeam@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago

Yeah! Sabrina is way better than Taylor!

~ I don’t actually hold this opinion. I don’t actually give a fuck at all. But I do like them both just fine ~

[-] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

Which is supposed to be the better album?

I don’t listen to either artist and don’t care for either of them from what I’ve heard on the radio and at malls so I’m not the best person to judge. I’m curious what your thoughts are though (and what the general consensus is).

[-] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

I mean It is just a matter of opinion if course, but I think the common consensus was that this was not Taylor's greatest work, and Manchild is one of if not Sabrina Carpenter's biggest song right now.

I personally was never the biggest fan of modern pop music but it's been starting to grow on me.

[-] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago

Ah, good to know, thanks. Not sure I’ll ever need the info but I’m always curious on what’s popular, even if it’s not something I’m interested in. I know of both artists but don’t know much music from either and don’t care to. But it’s cool to see what’s seen as better or worse by the general fanbase.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 9 points 18 hours ago
[-] spicytuna62@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

Aw man, I loved their last album. I never realized they released another. I was listening to The Scholars by Car Seat Headrest for a good portion of last year.

[-] Danitos@reddthat.com 2 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

They are not a female-only band, tho.

[-] pntha@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

excuse me where tf is Rosalia’s LUX. S+++ tier

[-] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 7 points 18 hours ago

I can safely say I know none of these albums. I've enough prior music to deal with first.

[-] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago
[-] Thatuserguy@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Princess of Power being that low is genuinely insulting

[-] jeanofthedead@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago

It ain’t her best work (said as a fan).
