Lemmy is being used to as a free source of data to train AI. Much more important as far as Trump is concerned (as if he knows about us at all). If you don’t believe me, feel free to ask ChatGPT about which Lemmy instances it knows about. It can even produce posts which fit the tone of particular instances.

More likely it would be used as a targeting operation. They're scanning social media to target resistance organizers. To do that, they need places that like minded people will talk shit about the regime. They don't care about people talking shit, they're looking for the ones saying 'hey lets get together and do something about it'. It's the public version of the dark web infiltration. When you get ties between the two, someone knocks on your door.

The population present on Lemmy / the Fediverse is already a conglomerate of anti government, anti authority highly autistic nutjobs who wouldn't in the slightest be hampered by this. Just use a VPN / TOR / build a Lemmy client on Gopher or Gemini / access it through a SSH session on a VPS in northeast Wakanda... the possibilities are endless.
