Real name online? (feddit.org)

I‘d like to know: Do you use your real name on other Social Media instances? How do your comments differ from the ones you make public from those ones made anonymous?

Unwritten rule online; you don't. Unless you're paying bills online and whatnot.

I only have an instagram connected to two or three hundred close friends and family. But it’s only for like, you know, pictures of our morning stools and stuff.

Fuck no.

My comments wouldn't differ, but I'd be too likely to have to shoot some moron that can't leave the internet on the internet.

Regardless of the account, anonymous or not, I assume that my identity will be revealed and post accordingly. I've been doing so since I first posted on the internet in 1990.

Not for nothing, the same is true for email and any other form of (electronic) communication.

Do I make mistakes? Absolutely! Have I regretted making a post or comment? Over the years perhaps less than a dozen times, that, or I'm getting old and feeble minded.

I try to make my contributions positive and supportive, sometimes I even manage to get the balance right between my odd sense humour and misunderstanding promulgated by online communication with strangers.

Thanks for the positive attitude, beautiful stranger!

For some accounts I do. For most I don't.

I use fake name generators for all accounts. I also have a system to get an email which can't be easily tied back to me.

The difference is I guess I comment with anonymous accounts.

Before we used our real name online cuz we wanted to be called by our name but over time we rather just have a Pen name of sorts. People still know and call us by our name but to random people it’s GarboDog. Yk?

Never. I have a very rare first Name and the combination with my last Name is unique. I also have cut contact with my abusive family so I don't want them to find me.

Exactly opposite in my case. My First last name in combination with the city I'm live in and year of birth is still far from sufficient to make the link. It has become a real superpower

I'm jealous.

I kinda do, my first name at least, though technically my lemmy/piefed username is a contraction of my real full name.

[-] jamhmgenau@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Nice :-)

OT: I can see your message in my inbox and was able to teils from there, but I can’t see it in the comment section of my initial post.

Federation is still a mystery to me 😄

I use my real name for all my accounts that are for socials(not nsfw sites but everything else)

Primarily because that is actually the first place I used my chosen name so all my friends and such use this name but as far as what is different its not much other than the content probably getting more degen and the topics being different

[-] pir8t0x@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

I used to do it before but not anymore. I use pseudonyms nearly 100% of the time whenever I make an account for anything.

In case of the comments, I used to use Instagram at a time, and my Instagram has my real name, bio, and information. And as you know, there's a lot of racism and toxicism on the platform's comment sections so I have faced racism a bit. Aside from that, nothing much.

[-] jamhmgenau@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

I’m sorry to hear that. Why people can’t just be nice to each other, I don’t understand. Life is tough enough.
