I like how there's just no bar at all for real estate. You can commit outright fucking fraud in your listings using AI and worst you get is a "whoopsie daisy" style article written about you.

[-] django@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 2 months ago

Might as well call it "fake estate".

[-] rhymeswithduck@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Depends on the state. Usually you're not allowed to materially misrepresent the home, meaning you can Photoshop stuff like the sky or the furniture (things that change irl) but not the actual walls or structure. In my state, if someone reports you for adding a random staircase or window that isn't actually there, you could be fined up to $5000. I'm not sure how many agents would care enough to report it though.

sigh. Yet another "journalist" sourcing stories from /r/popular.

[-] RegularJoe@lemmy.world 30 points 2 months ago

OK, but will he go half on the rent?

"for fuck's sake Baphomet, can you stop putting candles on the fucking carpet in the shape of a pentagram? I'm all for your beliefs and rituals, but I'm also all for getting my fucking deposit back"

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 24 points 2 months ago

Whats the point of AI for a realtor? If you're gonna just lie about what the property looks like, its easier to copy pictures of other properties.

[-] KanadrAllegria@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 months ago

I think a lot of realtors use some sort of generative imaging to furnish/stage empty homes on listings.

[-] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

It's still fraudulent, if the house is empty or a mess, I'd like to see what I'm actually buying, not what it could be if I spent 200k renovating it

[-] Thorry@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

It's perfectly fine to post inspirational pics along side the real photos. I've seen this done way before AI was ever a thing. Sometimes a sketch, sometimes more photorealistic. It's meant to communicate what would be possible in the space if one were to fix it up. I think somewhere around 2001 I saw software specifically for real estate to generate interiors with different layouts and color pallets and render them photorealistic. As long as the actual images are also included, it's totally fine.

What is the demons share of rent?

[-] Zier@fedia.io 19 points 2 months ago

That's not AI. That's my old apartment in Satans Alley. That demon was the best roommate I ever had. I miss that place.

[-] aviationeast@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Nah not AI, the property in haunted, Bring a gun.

[-] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 months ago

What the fuck is a gun going to do to a paranormal entity?

[-] CatZoomies@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

What the fuck is a gun going to do to a paranormal entity?

I’ll handle this one! Haven’t you heard of ghost guns? They precisely handle this use case.

[-] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Dunno but let's find out, I got higher calibers if needed

Make death stick this time?

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

If somebody's prowling around my home dressed up as a ghost (and it's not a Halloween-ish time of year), they get to learn what buckshot tastes like.

[-] GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

I misinterpreted this for a second and thought you were saying you would lynch the ghost

[-] GuyIncognito@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

Depends on the gun and the entity. A shotgun is a good general purpose weapon against most entities, especially since you can load it with rock salt, silver, or anything else an entity might be weak to.

A given type of gun might work better against certain entities, for instance a WW2 vintage mosin-nagant will be effective against Germanic entities like the krampus, while a cowboy ghost might have to be put down with a colt single action army. You can also anoint bullets with holy water, stuff like that.

[-] aviationeast@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I always bless my guns with holy water. They are all rusted now but I stick with the more resilient weapons.like my AK-47 with a 90 round drum (that only works till around half is empty before the old spring can't move them forward. Full metal jacket to take out the ghost in my house and the demon dog in my neighbors house!

[-] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 11 points 2 months ago

Do I have to keep sharing this image now for eternity lest she come for me?

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 6 points 2 months ago

Only to your top three friends, but you have to do it before midnight.

[-] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

Shower thought: if grudges go in the book, why has no one thought of bringing some dwarves to Japan?

[-] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

More like fake-tor.

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 6 points 2 months ago

It’s not even the first bathroom demon renters have come across lately. A separate Reddit user noticed what appears to be a miniaturized woman holding a smartphone disconcertingly crouched on the top of a toilet tank.

[-] Smaile@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Squints*

Is that a blowup doll?

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 2 months ago

“And then, for some reason, the AI added an uncanny valley blow-up doll reaching through the mirror for bathroom salad,” one user wrote.

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Fuck fuck fuck

It's coming out of the bathtub

[-] Davel23@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago

There's a Kids in the Hall sketch that's perfect for this story but it doesn't seem to be on Youtube.

[-] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago
[-] Davel23@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

That's blocked in the US but from the description doesn't appear to be what I'm thinking of. Thanks anyway.
