(use auto-translate, it's simplified Chinese but that's not a language option) Gay marriage is not legal in China. A good friend of mine had to leave to go back to UK because he wasn't allowed to marry his boyfriend. It sucks.

Do you have more details? Chinese social media has endless content of LGBTQ people associating with Chengdu so I'm wondering what this person was doing specifically to catch heat

Probably a CIA op to stir up trouble. Chengdu was where the US consulate was before the CPC shut it down and the area saw an immediate drop in trouble-making. American shut down the consulate in Houston in retaliation and pretended like it was because they were spying. Spying on what, traffic on Melrose and Westheimer? This is all I know, it got pushed to my wechat which means the government wanted us to know it.
