Been doing a huge amount of work around the house lately in the holidays.

Currently power washing the pavers out back and filling the joins with sand. Should be more fun tomorrow.

Should the dryer be upside down?

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 138 points 1 month ago

I come from the land down under - its actually the house thats upside down and I rotated the image.

[-] gressen@lemmy.zip 71 points 1 month ago

Ok, then tell me why is the washing machine upside down?

At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within OPs laundry room?

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 54 points 1 month ago

So I can reach the controls

[-] slazer2au@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's not. The dryer need to be installed 'upside down' so the heat radiates down (from our perspective) to the northern hemisphere.

[-] Myr@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's so he can reach the controls while it's mounted! I guess anyway - Idk why really.

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 62 points 1 month ago

Yes thats correct, the official instructions tell you to mount it upside down and the kit it comes with only works one way.

I've always found it irritating on others I've done over the years but there ya go.

[-] ccunning@lemmy.world 52 points 1 month ago

Never seen this done before. Glad to hear it’s a supported configuration.

[-] siigna@lemmy.sdf.org 26 points 1 month ago

Same. I was genuinely scratching my head before I came to the comments. Reaching the controls didn't even enter my mind 😂. I've seen stacked/combo units before, but never a wall mounted dryer.

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 49 points 1 month ago

Maybe this is less dull than I thought - perhaps mildly interesting?

[-] ccunning@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Definitely qualifies in my book

[-] nomy@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

We dull men are fascinated by your mounting the dryer, well done.

[-] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 5 points 1 month ago

The dryer is mildly interesting maybe, but your original post on the shelves (good job, by the way) qualifies for this community lol

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

Does this mean before you had it mounted it was actually upside down? Like the controls and all the text was upside down?

As long as the heat dissipation still works correctly this way

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 13 points 1 month ago

The exhaust vent can be angled right towards the window, or alternatively, ducted out the window.

It's alright, it's in Australia

My first thought as well

[-] sausager@lemmy.world 97 points 1 month ago

I've never seen a dryer installed upside down before.. woah

[-] annndy@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago

It’s Australia and super common in apartments here. INB4 everything up side down, down unda 😉

[-] Cort@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Wait, so it's not a joke? Are all dryers upside-down mountable, or is it a special type?

[-] annndy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I dunno about all driers, maybe not heat pump ones which have a reservoir for the steam / moisture to collect? But standard driers, yeah. Usually done in apartments with limited space for wall mounting above a top load washer (which are very common here), and let you reach the dial.

Yeah, this seems like it would be potentially an issue if the idler wheels aren’t designed to support the drum weight like this.

Edit: looks like there are a couple brands that allow this, Electrolux being one.

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Seems like a bad idea, but maybe it's kosher if the manufacturer says so?

All the dryer-blood is rushing to its head

[-] Wren@lemmy.today 34 points 1 month ago

Can we see your cat, please.

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago

Now this is what the internet is supposed to be for! Cat photos

[-] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

Cant wait for the follow up post where things keep falling off the shelf into fresh cat shit.

Is that drier made to be hanged like that or have you improvised?

I have a condenser drier but it does have a hose outlet to connect it to a drain. I wouldn't trust it to be on its head though

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 31 points 1 month ago

Made for it - comes with a kit to wall mount if required.

[-] em2@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 month ago

Quite common in Australia and New Zealand.

[-] Vinylraupe@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 month ago

Pretty cool. I hope the vibrations wont lead to a problem tho.

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 14 points 1 month ago

It doesnt really vibrate much, simple belt driven barrel and a heating element.

The thing is 40kg fully loaded so it would take a fair whack for it to come off the mount which is supported across 3 studs.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 12 points 1 month ago

The best thing is that now the room works both ways up in freefall.

[-] twinnie@feddit.uk 9 points 1 month ago

I absolutely hate putting shelves up. Something about the amount of measuring required, and it’s so unforgiving if it’s even slightly wonky.

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 10 points 1 month ago

The wall on the left is out of level by about 15mm bottom to top. However I have a laser level and it makes life very easy when needing to do any of this stuff.

[-] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 month ago

Second vote for a laser level. It’s still miserable, but easier.

[-] LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

Nothing quite like lining things up with the ceiling, getting out the level, and realizing your house isn't level.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 8 points 1 month ago

I didn't know you could mount a dryer on the wall, and I really didn't know you could install it upside down. This is an educational day.

[-] Krill@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Is that a condensing dryer? Or vented?

[-] bootstrap@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

Good ol' vented - didnt know condensing ones existed
