A US appeals court agreed on Tuesday to allow the Trump administration to strip Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood health centers in 22 states and Washington DC.

The order from the three-judge panel of the Boston-based first US circuit court of appeals puts on hold an injunction issued by US district judge Indira Talwani. Talwani’s injunction had blocked the Trump administration from enforcing a provision of its massive tax-and-spending bill that blocks Planned Parenthood from receiving reimbursements from Medicaid, the US government’s health insurance program for low-income people, in the 22 states.

The panel’s decision is only the latest legal volley in the months-long war over the Trump administration’s provision. The appeals court previously lifted another order by Talwani in a separate case, brought by Planned Parenthood, that had also blocked the measure’s enforcement.

Just a reminder for anyone who doesn't know it, the vast majority of Planned Parenthood's work is women's health, not abortions. But the right wing nutters are so hell bent on pushing their religious bullshit on everyone that they would prefer poor women die, or lose even more of a chance of moving out of poverty. Gilead as the goal.

They also hate women. This is a feature, not a bug.

it also provides testing for std, and sometimes medication other than abortions.

Isn't it also one of the few places men can get tested for breast cancer?

This will not end well for anyone affected. Republicans want a poor uneducated and desperate population and this will certainly help make more of it.

Here’s my c/UnpopularOpinion response ….

This looks right. While I totally disagree with this action, the court is ruling that it was done legally. Unlike so many other destructive actions of this administration, this was not unilateral nor was it stepping in the other branches of government. Congress voted to place conditions on funding.

But that’s their job. And that’s how they’ve always worked. It was a legit process.

By all means keep the focus on voting the fuckers out, but this is purely the Republican Congress. For once, it is not the fault of the executive branch nor the judicial branch nor was it an illegal action. Unethical of course. Harmful to constituents, all the way. Self-righteousness for usurping other people’s rights when they know they are above it, you betcha. But not illegal
