I have the perfect excuse of my parents deciding to move cross-country to Florida. No, I'm not fucking flying out to see you, I have to work christmas day.
Yeah, move that far away and no amount of guilt tripping will pay for a plane ticket
god I can't wait to live independently and have the option
I almost posted it without the caveat but luckily gave it another once over.

I didn't talk to my family over Christmas which was pretty good. I did however have to talk to my partners dysfunctional family which was an even worse experience.
That's where they get you! You think you dodged one set of parents then your favourite people end up having parents too!

Hell yeah it really is nice! Especially around the holidays.
Weirdly enough I have the opposite experience with older folks. Basically everyone, emotionally invested or not, asks me if/when I’d ever be open to talking to my dad again. Maybe they’re just scared of their own kids doing the same to them? 
Anyone under the age of 50 generally will tell me “good riddance” though just like you. Which feels so much more validating lol.
I have a young child so older folks are skeptical sometimes but when they hear:
"I already told her she can tell me in her own words what she believes the reasons for my cutting contact are OR show me she's been going to therapy"
Usually once they think about it for a moment they realize that my requirements are not difficult and yet have not been attempted. Maybe she's not all that eager to see her grandchild after all
Yeah hard to argue there! Sounds like a really reasonable boundary.
It helps when the reasoning works for old people but I understand that's not the case for a lot of people
you can even do it mid conversation
