Remember when these same people were lecturing artists on how “IdEaS aRe MeAnT tO bE sHaReD!” when artists told Silicon Valley to fuck off with their AI training data?

Well, which is it? Are IPs stifling innovation or do they keep things fair? You can’t have it both ways.

did they actually break the machines or is this more lib cope

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 38 points 4 months ago

Almost certainly cope since this is in relation to that other recent story about a Chinese competitor to ASML (said Dutch chip company) getting product online in the next couple years. ASML has a monopoly on extreme ultraviolet (EUV) photolithography, which is a necessary component of industry-best chip manufacturing.

Cope, it's caused by China having working prototype EUV machine years before they were expected to developed by reverse engineering older machines and hiring engineers with experience in this tech. And since US was very desperate to make this not happening, the copium fumes are very dense in certain places.

some-controversy porky-point My potential profit margins! What do you expect me to do? Innovate? Adapt? That costs money! My wholly owned subsidies aren't tooled for that! China was supposed to be for cheap labor and enshitification, not more affordable in kind or better peoducts!

Help government! Threaten nuclear war against China!

Media machines I own - Manufacture consent and make the people feel bad for me after throwing them under the bus for cheap labor in China for 40 years!

True innovation is when you have two privately-owned companies coming up with the same thing, but they have to have different proprietary implementations.

It’s happening in other industries and other countries all the time, and is often called “benchmark” or “benchmarking.” If you were a cog in a relevant enterprise at the right position, like in engineering/R&D, you’d sometimes get emails with a dossier like “we have disassembled the new [product of a competitor]… weight of all parts… principle component X utilizes….”

Rarely you will see a 100% copy as result. Patents would prevent that, or what suppliers you have access to, or other considerations such as available self-developed components.

In the auto industry the likes of JATO or CareSoft would be the service providers to source reports from.

people buying whole ass electronic microscopes and gigahertz electronic probes do this for fun of poking processors/embedded controllers/modems/radios, they are not getting their money worth

I recognise some of the words.

To be clear, I mean to say the original thing were cope and divisive hypocrisy.

ASML can eat my whole ass

Let's reverse engineer this machine through the magic of buying two of them!

They were training their AI with that
