Do I just throw it out or is it worth reading so i can talk shit in the margins and put it back?

Other suggestions welcome

Replace it.

No need for a scene, no need to be perceived as an ass. Just replace it.

It's literally just how little free libraries work. You don't even need to leave one (but should if you can, especially if you're removing a book rather than taking it to read imo). The intent is literally just to share books around.

I understand how the bougie book hut on a front lawn works. That was why I suggested replacement.

Tagline please

I wasn't going to cause a scene regardless but yeah good call

I'm sorry if it came across accusatory or anything. It wasn't meant that way.

Just get a copy of Ms Rachel and Bean and the Bedtime Routine and sub that in. If anything, the Ms Rachel book has some actual social redeeming value and is thus a step up.

Sorry again.

one time someone left JK Rowling's cross dressing killer book in one of those, and I took it and left it in my car with the plans to hollow it out and store my estrogen in there

I ended up leaving it too long and it grew black mold. then like a year later we learned Rowling's house was growing mold too.

if I wasn't a strict materialist I'd assign some significance or take some credit for this chain of events, but alas

You found her Horcrux.

Free mold with every copy

Replace it with blackshirts and reds.

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago

I was considering replacing with theory yeah

[-] nasezero@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago

Likely no one you'd consider a target for your margin notes would ever actually open the book to read it, so I agree with other commenters, just quietly replace it.

Take the cover off and put it over something like Chapo Guide to Revolution or something. Then take the original text and burn it, bury its ashes under a yew sapling, and sprinkle it with holy water and salt. You can never be too careful.

the yew sapling does not deserve this disrespect

[-] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 months ago

We care tenderly for the yew to show our thanks and appreciation, but something has to shield us from the book's whimsical evil.

Is there a way to make unholy water?

[-] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

I hear you can get it from Starbucks but I don't wanna give them the money because of the genocide-supporting thing. So, theft? I hear data center cooling water is also pretty unholy.

worth reading

Can’t imagine a world in which this worth reading. It’s not even a polemic, dude’s a complete dullard

Little Free Libraries are a pretty cool concept; there's not even an expectation that you take one and leave one - just grab a book you wanna read, and hopefully one day you'll be in a place to leave one. So yeah, grab it!

Given that you're specifically removing it, rather than grabbing a book you want to read, it probably is best to replace it immediately. It'd suck if people started policing things like this, but hillbilly elegy probably is a good one to get rid of.

All my theory books are cool and i dontlive near a leftist bookstore so it's probably gonna be a random fantasy novel but i was planning to replace it

There is one in the playground at my daughters school that's always empty, and I always thought it would be funny to put theory in there.

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

it would be even more funny to leave like a list of which books are easier to digest

and like a request form

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

We have a lot of them in our town. I've thought about trying to identify stuff I could print myself and slip into these boxes. All the good stuff would be to long to print myself though.

[-] LanyrdSkynrd@hexbear.net 4 points 4 months ago

I love calling them, "Little book house on a stick"

[-] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

Dude I've had the exact same experience!

Seems like everyone is ditching their copies.

Wonder why....
