This was a simple quid pro quo for Lander stepping aside in the primary.

Deals with the devil, now we get a progressive Zionist in office

[-] Biddles@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Better than a centrist, aipac funded Zionist, no?

[-] SickSemper@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

And worse than an antizionist DSA member, no? He just is a Zionist for the love of the game instead of money

Don’t worry, I know he’s the lesser of two evils (now that Mamdani coronated him over Avilés). Biden better than Trump and all that

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Biden better than Trump and all that

i dislike this comparison because there's a meaningful difference between "nothing will fundamentally change" and the socdem "we should improve things somewhat"

[-] SickSemper@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

True, it’s national socialism, we’ll give you buses and trains that run on time, in exchange for continuing the Zionism and imperialism

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

mayors famously having power over international matters.

[-] SickSemper@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

That’s why he can support lander and keep Tisch on, right, because surrounding yourself with Zionists doesn’t matter when you’re only the smol bean mayor of New York City

[-] Biddles@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

Why don't you run for mayor of New York if you're so sure of what is to be done?

Do you realize how much like democrat-speak that sounds? But interesting that you’ve chosen to die on the Zionist hill

Specifically name dropping Elbit would be hilarious if he wasn’t bragging about money made off of Palestinian corpses

[-] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Making sure to mention how much you support IG Farben during the Holocaust, lmao.

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

And quite frankly, Lander probably has a much better shot at winning that primary, Mamdani endorsement or no. So there’s some realpolitik in play as well.

[-] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Why endorse at all? Why not just do what he promised, just keep his mouth shut and focus on his plan for running the city?

Obama 2.0, that's why. Dude is already planning for the future.

We'll see if he is able to convert into something for anyone other than himself, but right now, by centering everything around purely himself without anything to show for it, without even honoring a vote, he is setting up the political machine to be around himself and no one else, which is mighty dangerous for someone who is supposedly challenging the system. Even Lenin at least entertained a pretense towards democratic decisions within the party, even if he liked to stack the deck. At this point DSA is literally more 'authoritarian' than the Bolsheviks.

He can’t be a literal Obama 2.0, as he wasn’t born in the US and thus can’t be president. Even if we’re talking about a more small-scale Obama, mayor of NYC is a notorious political dead end. There’s a long history of politicians trying and failing to translate being mayor into higher offices. If this some Machiavellian power scheme, and not just bog standard “you scratched my back now I’ll scratch yours” politics, it’s a bad one.

[-] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Obama is just the most convenient example, I've seen dozens of progressive politicians do the same thing as Zohran here, and it usually ends as the gravy train of speaking gigs for non-profits and universities. This type of person is what San Francisco was built on.

[-] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 30 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Mistake by NYC DSA to endorse her if they are going to withdraw it at Mamdani's behest. Makes them look weak and overrides the democratic will of the chapter. But the dominant factions in NYC DSA have made clear that they want to fully orient around Mamdani even at risk of damaging their internal democracy

[-] SickSemper@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

Everyone loves a charismatic Zionist-adjacent social democrat, this time with feeling

[-] Biddles@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

They endorsed her for city council, but I don't see that they endorsed her for Congress?

[-] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

Has Mamdani endorsed any DSA candidates?

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Starting to think he's a plant, what exactly was he doing before the DSA? The things he's doing are not just incompatible with socialist beliefs but they're barely compatible with most socdems, at least over here in europe most of the socdems would still never do this and most of them wouldn't even call Cuba a dictatorship or any of that crap.

Like, he's just straight up being a neoliberal as far as I can tell. And doing that while people believe he's further left is going to lead people that were left leaning back into liberalism via his charisma.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

Like, he's just straight up being a neoliberal as far as I can tell.

Mamdani takes off his Mission Impossible-style mask. Then Obama smiles and says "Let me be clear..."

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

Critiques of Zohran that identify him as "national socialist" are looking more convincing every time he's posted here.

[-] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

Why am I starting to wish Zohran had lost

[-] Ildsaye@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago
[-] Chana@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

Wonder which SocDem y'all will fall for next time

[-] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

the ghoulification of Zohran is done I think at this point, there needs to be something happening in NYC-DSA, a purge, either by liberals or leftists so they can separate and form their own orgs because it has been clear since Mamdani's win he's doing realpolitik and won't challenge anything

[-] MizuTama@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Guys, we need to focus on the Zohran affordability program. Failures of internationalism and incrementalism aren't real critiques when doing so would harm actual progress for real Americans.

We need to focus on America as our primary, our first priority!!!
