The artist is selling a screenshot of the quitting announcement.

https://haydenclay.shop/products/print

Hahahahhahahahaha

One other mod showed a screenshot of being removed and that they didn't just quit. It is possible it was one high level mod or mods kicking out the rest of the moderation team.

Seems like malignant narcissism and megalomania is a prerequisite for being a mod of large subreddits.

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

This can happen in smaller communities too, even on Lemmy. Ego-tripping mods are everywhere.

Power, however small, has a large potential for corruption.

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 6 points 2 months ago

I think corrupt people being attracted to positions of power is far more common than a decent person being corrupted.

[-] folkrav@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago

This would suppose people have a "corrupt" nature that they have or don't have, and have no desire nor ability to change. Doubtful, personally.

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 0 points 1 month ago

No it doesn't.

Corrupt people are taught to be corrupt, whether intentionally or by example. Like having a terrible parent who teaches them that selfishness and taking everything is how they should behave.

But once someone has chosen that path they tend to look for opportunities, and that includes positions of power. They can change, sure, but people who have been corrupt for decades are very unlikely to change especially if they have benefitted from corruption.

Temporally banned?!? From all of time?

That link is a great read, but glosses over the initial issue and apology. What I had read (maybe in your other post) was a self promotion rule was broken, really a minor one if it was a first time thing, and when the artist apologized, or rather I think it was more questioning if what he did was promotion at all (which I think is what sparked the mod to wield their power). Such a little thing that should have stayed in DMs and been resolved simply, but power tripping is a strong drug.

I originally posted this in the Technology community, but I was told to post here instead.

I think we are slowly witnessing the downfall of Reddit.

[-] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 31 points 2 months ago

We've been witnessing it for the last few years.

[-] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 13 points 2 months ago

Yes the integrity of the site has already collapsed. It's been dead to me for a couple of years now. But the corpse lumbers on like all corporate captured platforms.

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 13 points 2 months ago

What a cesspool. I hope the artist starts posting here.

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

People are speculating if the top mod went nuclear and booted everybody. Glorious own-goal drama from the jannies

[-] c0dezer0@programming.dev 3 points 2 months ago

That was the case.

It is impossible that all 14 art mods step down becuase one mod fucked it up.

[-] brax@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

This is absolutely nothing new... Wonder how many other subreddit this idiot moderates because "moderator reporting user for harassment because they called me out on being a fragile piece of shit" is seemingly the trend over on that shit site. It needs to be shut down on the whole

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

According to one of the removed mods, admins took over. It's in Update 2 at the bottom:

I was a mod in r/Art for over a decade, albeit only active in spurts in recent years. I can confirm that no one resigned. The top active mod neodiogenes re-ordered the list, then removed everyone on the mod list except his bot. Then admins took over the subreddit.

I’m just gonna say:
