YouTube comments is that one place where I see someone be confidently incorrect, type a whole reply, and delete it before hitting send, because it ain't worth my time

[-] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I just hit send and disable all notifications for replies.

[-] Mika@piefed.ca 7 points 2 months ago

Don't need to, google screws up notifications anyways

[-] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

it does, but it's not consistent in screwing up.

[-] REDACTED@infosec.pub 2 points 2 months ago

There are notifications for replies?

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Pretty sure only on pc. Ive never looked for notifs on pc, but i comment maybe a handful of times on youtube videos each year. Ive taken a look at my watch history more recently because i was curious to see why i had never seen a response. Turns out i was recieving responses, but even on the youtube page in my internet browser it wasnt giving me any notification. I refuse to download the youtube app because it wont allow sponsorblock or ublock origin, which are both mandatory for watching even 12 seconds long clips on youtube. Or so ive heard, as ive stated i dont get ads so i dont have first hand experiance with those issues.

Just saw this fitting post

I find this amusing because I remember reading that most of the bickering on Reddit was usually started by a handful of instigators.

E: Found it. Depending on how you interpret what I said, it's close enough, but I'll let you debate freely about whether I was right or not. 😇 https://www.engadget.com/2018-03-19-study-shows-distribution-of-reddit-fights.html

Where does arguing on Facebook fit into this? Nextdoor? JFC, my neighbors are a bunch of blithering idiots.

[-] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I swear Nextdoor had to be a psyop to make your neighbors seem crazy. There's no fucking way people are actually like that

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Arguing through video responses so you also get paid to argue.

[-] iii@mander.xyz 8 points 2 months ago

Acutally I think you made a big error in this analysis

[-] respectmahauthoritybrah@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Amendments welcome! I suppose those who argue in universities are even smaller brained… They should appreciate the impartial unbiased and thoroughly investigated academic rigor of youtube comments!

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 8 points 2 months ago

Arguing in Andrew Tate's youtube comment sections are some of the most intellectual conversations I've personally had.

[-] don@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

They may be arguing with you.

[-] iii@mander.xyz 2 points 2 months ago

No, I'm not! What even is an argument? Who decides that?

[-] DrBob@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 months ago

You haven't lived until you've had a pissing match on Quora, the home of the Superior Intellect™.

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

YouTube comments section is a sewer

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I still don't know how people get notifications for when someone replies. Don't you need to have email notifications turned on for that? Who does that?

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Blocking them and then talking shit about the dumbass for years to come

🌌 🧠

so many people have got this treatment. it's almost therapeutic.

[-] Draegur@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago

Not shown: the lower lines that list "Arguing in the Shower" and "Arguing in Your Imagination", and the bottom line of "Not Arguing At All"

[-] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

OK, come find me on a youtube video about sheep cheese and I'll debate you.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 5 points 2 months ago

Of course a sheep cheese philistine would argue in the comments. Get on the Llama cheese level

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

The real questions we want answers to.

[-] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

What about arguing in tiktok comments?

You have ascended the mortal plane by then

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Arguing on TikTok is like arguing on a payphone with the minimum of credits, because when you run out of characters, you just have to

[-] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

They actually increased the character limit on TikTok
