The type of person who arrested him:

By Sunday evening, however, the posts had gotten the attention of Perry County Sheriff Nick Weems. An avid Facebook user himself, Weems had shared the information about the Kirk vigil on his own page a few days earlier. He had also posted his own emotional response to the news of Kirk’s murder in September, warning ominously about the “evil” in our midst. “Evil could be your neighbor,” he wrote. “Evil could be standing right beside you in the grocery store. It could be your own family member and you never even know it.”

Christofascist nutjob.

Who the fuck let him become sheriff?! America is a seriously messed up place.

[-] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 78 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Oh, sherrif is an elected position in Tennessee.

So other christofascist nutjobs.

[-] Vorticity@lemmy.world 36 points 4 months ago

This is true almost everywhere in the US.

Perry County, Tennessee is only 8,300 people. There are only a few towns in LA metro smaller than that. Both LA and Orange Counties have had corrupt sheriff’s that were sentenced to jail. Imagine what it would be like in a county where everyone personally knows your family and there are very few checks and balances on power?

It must be like living in Idiocracy there.

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I saw a docu about places like this once. People don't dare to express non-Republican political opinions let alone openly support one. Violence threatened and carried out. And of course election isn't quite as secret as you'd think. Voting anyhthing but Trump requires balls.

Acab is true but the way Sheriffs work makes them extra Acab its literally unbelievable.

[-] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 4 months ago

As others have pointed out, the sheriff is an elected position. All you have to do is move in the right circles, and out in the boonies those circles are the local church(es) and republican party.

"Are we the baddies?"

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 months ago

Exactly and it's almost as if he's bragging about being evil and the people closest to him not realizing it.

Paranoia is a disease unto itself

And may I add

The person standing to you

May not be who they appear to be

So take precautions

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 6 points 4 months ago

haikubot, is that you? ❤️

This guy is gonna have a field day with his lawsuit once this is over. The prosecutor is going to cost them millions for something no one will remember after it's over.

[-] KingGordon@lemmy.world 139 points 4 months ago

Right. Let me just read the bill of rights to see if theres anything that applies…. Oh wait, it’s the FIRST one. That was easy.

[-] hddsx@lemmy.ca 95 points 4 months ago

Funny, SCOTUS sees you and will rule that the president is the arbiter of what is and isn’t free speech

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

It's go to the city/county/state. Being that a Nashville judge said that the charges against Garcia and attempting to deport him were likely illegitimate... I don't see it going that sheriff's way at all

"Them" in this case, is the tax payers.

[-] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 57 points 4 months ago

Something the dipshits don't ever seem to realize. That their taxes are literally paying out those multi-million dollar settlements.

That's where the real and easy to stop government waste is.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

Well that group of morons are the ones who elected this sheriff.

[-] ronigami@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You’re assuming we will have our current laws in the foreseeable future.

This is the latest American version of The Monkey's Paw wish to be rich.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

How much money can he even get for this? I'm not a lawyer but I assume he can ask for lost wages and maybe for emotional distress(?) but that should come at around a few tens of thousands. From what I've seen before not even people that were wrongfully imprisoned for decades don't get that much money in reparations. Also from looking it up Tennessee has a cap of 1 million dollars for reparations.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago

According to the sitting POTUS, it seems it should be $230 million.

[-] pachrist@lemmy.world 95 points 4 months ago

“I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.”

Charlie Kirk sat under a tent that said "Prove Me Wrong" and got shot dead with a bullet in the neck. So either he's right and his death is a prudent deal, or he's a dumbass. The whole situation is so riddled with irony it has to be a joke.

[-] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 37 points 4 months ago

Yup. I might not be fine with the way Charlie Kirk died but that quote proves that Charlie Kirk was fine with the way Charlie Kirk died.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

So, I've avoided images/video of the actual shooting, this is the first time I've heard he was under a tent that said "Prove me wrong"

LOL

Shooter: Challenge Accepted!

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 4 months ago

It is 10x more ironic than that when you dig into it. Dude also said public executions should be a thing and that kids should be forced to see it and then he was publicly executed in front of his own kids.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago

Don't forget he was talking about public shootings when it happened.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

More specifically he was trying to obfuscate with gang violence amongst people of color only to catch a bullet in Mormonland. Which is so fucken white it makes my pasty ass uncomfortable.

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many times conservatives on Reddit directly threatened me via comments and DM's.

(I have all my fingers and toes.)

[-] Newsteinleo@midwest.social 5 points 4 months ago

So at least 21 but at most infinity.

[-] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 41 points 4 months ago

You know what Charlie Kirk would say about this if he were still alive?

"Gaaaaaaaaaaaargle gargle gargle gAAAAAAaalge"

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 31 points 4 months ago

FREEEEEEEEEDUMB!!!!

Liberty! Constitution! Small government!

...oh, for people I don't like? Nah.

[-] DioramaOfShit@lemmy.world 29 points 4 months ago

Charlie Kirk used to fist his own asshole.
