Would you like dress so short people can see up your butthole, or dress so long you look like a Victorian who's afraid to show ankle? No, there is no middle ground.

How are you still jealous of this owl's drip? It's been like 3 weeks. Maybe stop shopping in holes you find at construction sites or wherever the fuck it is owls live?

I am not jealous of this owl's drip, for that drip belongeth to that owl and not to me.

I am envious of that owl's drip, for that drip belongeth to that owl and not to me.

(by "drip" I mean "incredible cuteness")

Time to hem and, if necessary, sew

For a starter sewing project its a pretty good one and being okay at sewing is useful

You're right. Hell yeah this is going to be fun lets-fucking-go

As a stenchcore crust warrior, if color isn't a concer thread wise, I recommend using dental floss. I did it cause its what punks used, mostly cause it was easier to shoplift than going to a fabric store to steal thread but Ive also found that it's nice when you gotta tie off an end. You can do the standard thread tie and then melt it down with a lighter so it's a sealed waxy melted blob of a knot.

Oooh yeah, I almost forgot to ask you again for some crust punk music recs (I mean, if you're not busy, no pressure)

Oh right! Its actually not a bad time to start since im waiting on the oven. Okay, so to get from standard 77 style punk to crust we must first venture through anarcho punk, which is a political association, music style and a time and place all at once. Ian Glasper's book The Day The Country Died goes over it pretty well and there's also a video documentary for it as well which is prettt easy to find on YouTube. It basically stitches any interviews for the book that were done on video with some narrative. For bands, Crass is easily the starting point cause they inarguably started it. Generally what gets referred to as 'anarcho punk' in musical terms means bands that take a strong musical influence from Crass as well as a political one, generally that was and is in pretty broad strokes and more in a really trebly guitar tone, focus on bass as a melody instrument and military style drumming with a lotta snare rolls. Crass were a weird weird avant guard inspired band that were prettt hard to copy. From there the UK got absolutely fucking FLOODED with DIY punk bands and that spread further.

Notable band in more or less chronological order:

Crass

Poison Girls (similar to Crass they were a combo of punks and beatnik era anarchists who came together and I think.they lived on the same farm land or were neighbors, hard to describe)

Flux of Pink Indians (most Crass copying but did a swell job until.they got experimental and then kinda sucked)

DIRT (amazing, fucking love this band)

The Mob (my favorite band)

Zounds (started pre punk as sort of a weird jam band and brought that to a punk thing, really cool)

Psycho Faction (I think the oldest member was 16 and youngest was 12, got thanked in tje linear notes of a Crass album for setting up shows in remote parts of the uk, there are no full on releases but demo recordings are out there online)

Conflict (important but the singer has been revealed to be dodgy in a few ways, not paying bands for records sold on his diy label fairly, writing an anti abortion song, writing an anti immigration song, being pals with a nazi since the 80s etc...they kinda brought a more hardcore/uk82 (thing gbh/exploited kinda musical sound to it and that is important to crust and most of this stuff never really came all together until less than 10 years ago, just too many little things adding up over time)

Hagar the Womb (female focused and fronted and also really poppy and fun, which was kinda their thing in the dour and serious scene, love em)

Omega Tribe (they have piano ballads!)

The Astronauts (semi psychedelic experimental stuff)

Icons of Filth (conflict but better and with darker sounding riffs that id call fairly proto crust)

Amebix (started as a really weird anarcho punk band, once again, hard to describe, got really into sounding like killing joke and then went a bit more metal and get credit for inventing crust, I guess they sorts did but id give greater credit to...)

Antisect, take Flux of Pink Indians first album Strive to Survive and Discharges Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing (Diacharge is also crucial to crust,.they were sorta kinda anarcho punk sorta kinda uk82 but are easily the most important band in all heavy music, metal went from maiden to slayer via discharge) puts em together and invents crust with In Darkness There is No Choice.

I'll have the actual first wave of UK crust soon and then...it gets really complicated.

This old blog has really good detailed write-ups of most of the anarcho punk scene as well as download links that may not work anymore:

https://anarchoscene.blogspot.com/?m=1

Oh fuck, I forgot to mention Rudimentary Peni who were kinda outsiders as well as part of the anarcho punk thing and are also a favorite band of mine. There's a lot to go into with them, maune just read their page on the blog I sent, Nick Blinko is my biggest visual art inspiration as well)

Oh! Also Chumbawamba came from the later part of this/early crust scene and mostly played with early crust bands for the first 6 years or so!

Another band(s) I reallt like are Cyanide Scenario who are super goth and then became Internal Autonomy who are all over the place.

Oh also Lost Cherees who start out kinda like Hagar the Womb but by the time of their first full length All Part of Growing Up they kinda got really good, huge recommend album wise, irs really poppy but the songwriting is superb.

Flowers in the Dustbin are another great band.

Ooh! Also Anthrax who had the name before the metal band, Anti-System who would become kinda crust, and Rubella Ballet are also really cool. I know about a LOT of bands and may have more to add just to this scene alone. And I haven't even talked about ones outside the UK. Im trying not to overwhelm, but yeah.

Anarcho punk kinda has a tone and recording quality commonality but the music is super varied, dont expect that later on

Double replying so you get notified, first wave of UK Crust isn't too hard. Things really branch of during and after that but we'll go sorta slow-ish. So anarcho punk in general was pretty bloomer. Turns out living im squats under Thatcher wore that down and so it became CRRRRRUST. Also people listening to stuffing Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd and what would become known as first wave black metal like Venom, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost who all fucking rip, Hellhammer is super influential to crust. So ive already talked about amebix and Antisect as well as sorta in between bands like Icons of Flith. Crust also took a lot from Diacharge and thr more chaotic squatter punks like Disorder and Chaos UK. There are essentially 3 schools of crust. Antisect style which is basically heavy anarcho punk with a dbeat, crust core which is exemplified by Extreme Noise Terror at the Earliest which is like proto grindcore and would become grindcore but still exist as its own thing after and stenchcore which is generally slowe paced and metal in a death/doom metal way while still having a lot of punk.

So for crust core the essential early bands are Extreme Noisd Terror, despite them tski g a really long time to put out an LP were the firsr, Doom is probably the biggest. Doom was really influenced by Swedish dbeat (dbeat being the suvgenre of bands that really really rip off Discharge and will have its own entry). There's also a noisier version in the Sons of Bad Breath and other Hackney Hell Crew bands that would eventually form Sore Throat and invent noisegrind

Your antisext style is common among anarcho punk bands ive already mentioned who bridge the gap and will become important in the 90s.

For now, stenchcore and grind are kinda the evolving things

For stenchcore

Deviated Instinct, probably my favorite band, also started as anarcho punk but ways had a metal sound, the terminal filth stenchcore demo from 1986 is everything crust is about.

Axegrinder, came later than the others but really nails this dirgey slow mid tempo thing that would be used a lot

More obscure bands from the time and place include Domination Factor, Pro Patria Mori and Life Cycle. They all absolutely rip.

For grind, Napalm Death is an obvious one, they also began as an anarcho band and kinda sounded Like joy division before replacing all but one .member speeding up a lot and replacing the last og member before the first lp came out.

Heresy also rocks. Early UK grind is a bit closer to really fast hardcore cause they were just hearing some of the early American icsn hardocre stuff. Concrete Sox, Electro Hippies, and Ripcord are the essentials. For the super raw check out Dirge and Plasmid, being able to tolerate stuff that sounds that bad will be useful soon.
