What's really weird to me is the mix of NTSC and PAL/other in the same region. Japan is NTSC and Europe is PAL so why are they both in 2?

I suspect it was an attempt to group by dome sort of income/PPP tiering.

They couldn't sell DVDs to America for $20 if they also sold compatible ones for Ghana at $3.

That's the right answer, also why Australia isn't in the same region as Europe so they'd have to buy the more expensive Australian releases.

Hmmm I'll take a blind guess or two

My initial guess was some sort of US military command division but that doesn't make sense to me with some of the groups (South Africa being seperate from Africa for one).

My next guess was splitting the world into equal population shares but India being grouped with Africa shoots that one down.

It's not a RISK map, linguistic map, political alliance map, or a map of former empires/zones of imperial control

nice find! this is the world map for a near future turn based strategy game i'm writing.

the major factions:

A/1: cyberpunk monarchy Cambodia-Brunei-Thailand (inspired by austria-hungary), feudal buddhist monarchy, but good food. (they also control the completely destroyed western hemisphere because no one else wanted it. it is populated by stone age rat people)

B/2: Eurovisiontopia, a gaypunk socdem republic. nice place to live except fr*nch is still an auxilliary official language. their secret superweapon is called "diiss pwan"

C/3: PRIC. 90% of the world population lives here. it is the soviet union 2.0 and is dominated by megacities with good infrastucture. used to be called PRICK but they lost Korea to the CBT Monarchy in the Great Peninsulan Penis War
