the motion picture was the most "trekkie" of any piece of star trek work that exists. the deep inclusiveness of its characters and (especially) its extras; it's egalitarian social structure; its almost over the top humanist sensibilities are on proud display. people miss most of it unless it's dissected in front of them and either missing or outright removed in all star trek works since then: the inclusiveness gives way to cultural stereotypes; the egalitarianism is replaced with a military like command structure; and even sex has become almost taboo in later works.
there's so much more to it and i tried looking up the youtube videos that made me aware of it, but i failed.
