Red paint attack follows no vote on amendment to cut anti-missile funds – despite her rejection of $600m Israel aid bill

A Bronx office of the US House member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was vandalized early on Monday, according to New York City police, who say they are investigating.

The vandalism occurred as the progressive Democratic congresswoman grapples with “threats on [her] life”, as her campaign manager put it, after a recent US House of Representatives vote involving American aid to Israel.

Officers called out to Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign office in Westchester Square at about 12.45am found its front covered in red paint, police said. Images circulating online and on local news media outlets showed someone had left a sign which alleged that Ocasio-Cortez “funds genocide in Gaza”, though she has repeatedly criticized the Israeli military’s strikes there.

AOC probably could have just owned it as a mistake, said something about it being a learning experience, and moved on without it even being a story past the day it happened.

Edit: she'll get even more lib now and be "tough on crime" or something

She could have said nothing and people's attention spans would have run out by now. Honestly I think that should be the default move for every public figure - it only makes sense to post first if your opposition is going to post and try to control the narrative, which in this case they definitely weren't going to.

It seems like most pubic officials have relied on that strategy until very recently. Trump keeps quadrupling down on the Epstein stuff.

I wasn't even aware DSA made a statement until I read this article. All I've seen are her tweets

This attack on my office is only 1% of the kind of hate my Jewish friends and neighbors endure daily, and these kinds of attacks are becoming endemic on the "left" and the right. To better ensure safety for myself and for my Jewish staff and colleagues, I've personally hired a contingent of IDF contractors to guard and investigate this awful hate crime.

Or something like that.

She's done, the spell has finally broken, she's persona non grata among the grassroots

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 67 points 9 months ago

That would be cool if she got primaried by someone with a more correct reading of the Israel - Palestine situation.

I saw someone on libsky ask why they do this to her but won't both with a Republican and wonder if people realize whoever did this likely was local to the area and didn't travel god knows how far just for the vandalism. I don't like lib dunking more than I already do so chose not to engage lol.

Also how do you know they haven't targeted any republican homes? Republican homes have been targeted in the US. You dunno if it's the same person.

See tankies AOC believes in a diplomatic solution to the genocide in Gaza and in order for there to be a diplomatic solution between Palestine and Israel there must be an Israel. That's why actually funding Isreal is a good thing actually and why by trying to defund Isreal you're the real reason the genocide is happening!

Or something I dunno I have more than zero brain cells

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 45 points 9 months ago

though she has repeatedly criticized the Israeli military's strikes there.

Wait since when isn't that enough?! What next, you want people in Congress to DO something when you demand it? Entitled little shits!

[-] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 12 points 9 months ago

Dear Alexandra, perhaps you now understand that against nazi there is no "but". There are no "wrong" reasons to defund the fucking zionists, even if the proposal comes from an unhinged antisemitic fundamentalist fascist like Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
