One thing I learned back from my paramedic days was that given how much fucking power is running through the patient, theyre remarkably survivable provided CPR is done pretty quick.
Most cardiac arrests that occur out of a hospital have abysmal survival rates. You got a friend who can do some compressions after a lightning strike though? You'll almost certainly come back after a few minutes.
And for your troubles you get a cool scar (ie: ferning) and a lifetime fear of thunderstorms.

I've always wanted to be struck by lightning (and survive with relatively few complications). Not enough to tempt fate. Kinda like how everyone "wants to die," but they never actually kill themselves. Y'know?
You can try to get tased and see if that scratches your itch. Most people that I've talked to that have been tased and been pepper spray say they would rather get pepper sprayed again. They really hated the shock. I know lighting would be way more power than a taser but it's something..
I don't wanna try to do anything; I just think it would be a cool story to tell if it happened naturally. "Dude, I was just walking to my front door after work and BAM!" That kinda thing.

For many, such as in the US, are struggling so hard that, in the Maslow hierarchy of needs, their long term health isn't as pressing of an issue compared to others.
Paying to be told why your health is bad and needing to take on the financial burden of continued medical care to rectify anything wrong is not as pressing of a worry as, say, being able to make rent payments or making sure you have food in the fridge to last.
There are also the psychological trauma effects of poverty that twist people's ability to logic through a situation. Poverty is stressful; the brain begins to prioritize short-term release of this stress to protect itself from mental harm even to the detriment of other needs cause our fleshy meat computer isn't perfect and prone to errors of logical reasoning.
