He wears hats and his name is Robert. Oh and we spoke about guitar pedals for about two hours

I talked Halo lore with a guy for four hours at a party. Never got his name. Great guy

Wow nerd which parties are you going to and how can I get an invite

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

It was a party with my student government surprisingly. I guess Halo books are just more popular than I thought.

I can chat with anyone about guitars and gear for hours on end. Sometimes I go to music shops just to look at stuff and chat with the staff

Have you found any decent guitar communities on lemmy?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

[email protected] seems to be the most active community I've found, but it could be more active I guess

Woah woah woah. We don't exchange names until the third bro meeting. Until then he's just a cool dude we respect.

What's he do? Does it really matter who he works for so he can eat?

You're speaking my language

That question doesn't have to be about work. What are his other hobbies? Does he have kids? Collectibles? Volunteer interests?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

🤷‍♂️

Why are you asking so many questions? Are you a cop?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I'm asking the questions here.

What is this guy, a cop?

Answers: We talked about this hobby; kids are irrelevant to our friendship unless they a) join us, or b) cause scheduling conflicts; we're collecting things related to this hobby; and I honestly don't care about his volunteer interests. Our friendship begins and ends with our mutual hobby.

To be clear, I'm not joking. That's essentially what many male friendships are like. If I find out they're a Nazi or something, the friendship is over, but most other things are irrelevant.

Kind of? Typically knowing what someone does for a living gives you a pretty good insight into their background and what type of person they are. It's not a universal truth, but mechanics are usually very different from doctors.

One fixes meat machines and the other metal ones. Same thing really.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Another mate fixes metal meat machines.

Most people are not their job.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I understand. But the type of job you have, and the requirements to get it, can often give people a general idea of what type of person you are. It's also an indication of your socio-economic position, which also lends some insight.
