When you're playing trivial pursuit, but it's one of the older editions made for boomers, this is key knowledge:

Jefferson Airplane (1965-1974) became Jefferson Starship (1974-1984) became Starship (1992-Present) and they rotated out members so much, it's like a multi-axial Ship of Theseus thought experiment to talk about this basically small village of people who took turns being a band with 3 different names.

My research advisor in college made me learn most of the ins and outs of this graph (minus the people's names) and our research had nothing to do with art or music. We were a chemistry lab.

The band had several personnel changes, and with it lots of legal battles over the band name and the rights to their music. So the song I posted is actually by Jefferson Starship, but the band Starship is still around and this is their official channel, so that's why it's labelled as such.

you find the wildest interests and hobbies on the internet. had never even heard of this and i consider myself pretty generally knowledgeable.

fuck man. thanks for sharing, very cool! if it isn’t rude to ask, what got you into this in particular? do you do this for work?

I do this because I'm autistic, haha, and my research advisor in college was also, and classic rock was one of his special interests. He could go on for an hour about the various musician changes in all of his favorite bands. I'd just be listening to Pandora or something, then a song by, like, Ram Jam would come on, and he'd start going on about the history of the band and how they got started. Eventually a lot of the high points started to stick.

Then there's all the times they took turns on Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young albums and solo projects. There's the grace slick and Paul kantner albums pre starship, and there's Hot Tuna.
