Birthday Beans!
Well done! That's 14.9 times longer than Liz Truss was Prime Minister!
Crikey, I only joined a couple of weeks after this instance started too... looks like a few of us didn't realise the paint was still wet when signing up.
Thanks @[email protected] , @[email protected] and @[email protected] for all your hard work! (& Tom...)
Happy birthday us! I didn't realise until now that the instance was only a week old when I joined. Time to link back to the first post: https://feddit.uk/post/1
How did you discover it? I think I tried Lemmy before this instance existed but couldn't figure out how to use it so gave up, but I think I saw a comment on /r/casualuk where someone mentioned this instance and signed up.
I originally signed up for lemmy.org.uk, but that instance disappeared randomly a week after being created. I can't remember how I discovered here, I think I just went to the instances sections on join-lemmy.org and went to the UK instance listed.
Blimey, until your comment I had not realised I joined just a few days after the instance was created.

Wait, are you no longer an admin?
Yep, I made a quiet exit a few months back.
Just too much life going on to feel I was doing enough.
I have promised Flamingos and Emperor that if they needed another, I can step up again.
Ah fair enough! I can imagine admining can take a lot of time and effort. Thanks for your contribution!
Thanks for the work you Admins put in to keeping it running for us!!
Happy birthday
Blimey, was all that Tom business a year ago now? Happy Birthday!
Speaking of Tom business, as mentioned elsewhere, anyone heard from Emperor? It seems he last posted about a month ago.

I haven't heard from Emperor since about the end of April. I hope everything is fine, but we do need them to submit the server bill soonish.
What happens if they don't? Can anyone else do it? I kind of assumed it would be automatically debited from the opencollective fund.
How it's worked so far, from what I can see from my side, is Emperor would get an email from Hetzner with an invoice PDF that then needed to be submitted to OpenCollective to pay that month's bill. Emperor is AFAIK the only one who gets the invoices, unless @[email protected] gets them (I wasn't in the admin team when all this was set up).
While I'm not admin, I'm cc'd on the invoices for continuity.
Emperor has been submitting them, however I've picked up this month's to be on the safe side and submitted it.
Do you think it might be a good idea to bolster the admin team by another member, just in case?
I'm not volunteering, you understand. Oh heck no. But might be worth putting the feelers out to see if anyone is interested. If Emperor returns then all good, you've got an extra admin, no harm done; and if he doesn't, then at least you're not short-handed.

Where's the cake?! π
Itβs federated cake, thereβs a little bit everywhere and you have to gather it all yourself.
I think I'll pass, you never know where those other instances have been!
The cake is a lie π
Looks like I found my first test subject.
Yay, starting only a couple of days after creation.
Cake day: 9 June 2023
I joined when Tom announced on Reddit.
Happy birthday, just joined yesterday.
Happy birthday!

Nice! Can we see some growth numbers/charts?
Past the teething stage, but aren't the "terrible twos" when the nightmares begin?
