For the past year or so, at least 50% of the threads on my front page have consistently been hidden because they've been filtered out by my political word filters. I honestly can't comprehend how anyone can consume this much US politics and not go completely insane.

No clue. I've tried to remain largely detached and treat it like watching a train wreck.

Unfortunately, I live right smack dab in the middle of all this, so I need some of it in my feed to remain informed. So I just filter it out by default and catch up on the broad strokes later. No longer having my front page be a deluge of coverage of two raging assholes seems to be helping my mental health lol.

People keep bringing up the "sticking your head in the sand" argument every time I mention filtering out political content, but I'd argue that if something is truly important, then it simply can't be avoided - even if you tried. Secondly, no one is obligated to "stay informed" at the cost of their sanity. And then there's the fact that I can go to an actual news site when I feel like it, rather than having the news force-fed to me throughout the day when I'm just trying to look at some memes while sitting on the toilet.

For sure!

I can't stand when people throw that argument around. There's a huge difference between ignoring reality (aka 'sticking your head in the sand') and not wanting to be flooded with endless coverage of the same topic/assholes; especially if it's causing unwanted stress.

Like, I am an adult with object permanence; I know things continue to exist and happen even if I need to look away for a while lol.

:D

But that's just the posts that actually contain the keywords. ATM approx 98% of all memes are about the kerfuffle, most without even using their names, like

Lol, yeah. I just hide/filter the political memes communities or stick to "Subscribed" feed. Unfortunately, can't really detect keywords in image posts unless it's in the title or alt text :(

I do actually wonder how difficult it must be being a therapist to either of these guys.

On the one hand, the money must be life changing, on the otherhand anything divulged to you now comes with an implicit "on penalty of death by defenestration" attached to it.

Plus, you might not be able to refuse if called upon.

Both of them seem to be the type that absolutely need therapy but staunchly refuse to admit it let alone seek it.
