The fact of the matter is that the massive federal deficit is not due to wasteful spending, it's due to unsustainably low taxes on the wealthy. Republicans are trying to frame it as Elon failing because if it's framed honestly (Republicans failed because they're overblowing the problem) it'll be harder for them to sell the idea in the future so they can lay waste to public services once more.
