I feel like I haven't heard anything from younger genz about games outside of 'streamer screamer' game of the week.

Is there anything really new and unique?

You know, I would love for games to offer child only servers with the purpose of protecting children from pedophiles.

But also, for my selfish need to not have children ruining my games in first person shooters. 🤣

I’ve noticed a strong shift to brawl stars with one of my kids and their friend group.

minecraft, roblox

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fortnite.

The current streamer fad game seems to be REPO; which looks like it's just a knock off of Lethal Company, tho IMO it is a bit cuter with the way player character's heads flap with your mic when you speak.

I don't know, but my kid won't be playing Roblox. That game has as many groomers and pedophiles as the Catholic Church.

Eww yuck. I haven't heard about those degenerates being on there.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 18 hours ago

The idea of degeneration also comes from white supremacy btw in case you didn't know. Its what the ubermemch is/was contrary to and what the whole alpha males thing is from.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 15 hours ago

Technically, being white is a degeneration from the basal human state. Our species evolved in Africa.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

And it itself is a creepy company town for bilking children.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Come on now, there couldn't possibly be THAT many!

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

it's also one of the most imaginative and creative gaming platforms ever created so there's that

[-] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

You could argue the same for any game engine (Unity) or game with a big modding community (Garry's Mod). The big difference here is that Roblox aimed straight at children right from the start and also offers a no friction hosting of those creations

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

That doesn't justify exposing him to pedos.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

It's not like your throwing him into a prison cell with a pedo. Pedo's could literally be ANYWHERE online. I think you are paranoid.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

There have been numerous complaints about grooming and cyber bullying on Roblox. Instead of fixing the problem, the CEO suggests that we don't let our kids use Roblox.

So we took his advice, and my kid doesn't play Roblox.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I grew up on the internet and survived 42 years without running into a pedo... I have been online gaming for around 30 years.. I don't blame you for protecting your kids, I would too. But I think there's more fear than reality in a lot of these stories.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Have you considered that when you were a kid you would have been too clueless to notice them and when you're an adult they would be not very likely to out themselves to you?

You're likely not playing the same games they would be either if the target audience of what they're lurking in is aimed at children.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 20 hours ago

I have and like I said nothing has happened not to say it can't happen I just think that the risk is relatively low

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Groomers not so much, maybe depends on the games they play. But my kid did get scammed, that was a learning moment.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Maybe not a bad thing though. Rather learn to be cautious with "worthless" digital items and be less likely to get scammed later on

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Absolutely, this wasn't the worst objectively. But the abuse of trust hits them hard nonetheless

[-] [email protected] 21 points 1 day ago

It's still Roblox

[-] [email protected] 35 points 2 days ago

As a 30 y/o myself, it feels like they’re still playing those games from 4 years ago: Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, Brawlstars. But they watch much, MUCH more AI Slob

[-] [email protected] 31 points 2 days ago

As a parent I can confirm this is true. Lots of AI slop. But probably even more weird, random, quick-fire meme shorts. Although those two categories are rapidly bleeding together into one massive clusterfuck.

My oldest frequently says "gen alpha is so cooked!" due to all the meme and AI slop. Which considering he is gen alpha is both insightful and disturbing.

[-] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

Attention span is so, so short now. Caught my kid playing Fortnite, then alt-tab to YouTube Shorts when they got killed. For like 10 seconds of downtime to respawn. Atrocious!

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Imagine them being able to play cs and go a whole round after dying instantly to a one tap... kids definitely couldn't handle it

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

That guy who one tapped you? Actually 8 years old

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

Definitely way much more ai slob and brain rots

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago
[-] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago

It's still Minecraft and Terraria.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

They're getting bugs and keeping em in matchboxes, making them get on sticks and fight each other like Pokémon. It's brutal out there man, kids these days are tougher than us

[-] [email protected] 18 points 2 days ago

It's all about the DOSbox, baby! Skibidi rizz, yeet yolo!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

How do you do fellow human child

[-] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

My son plays Fortnite in addition to the other two. I don't know of any other games that offer the wide choice and peer interaction that Minecraft, Fortnite and Roblox offer.

He mainly watches streamers who play those games

[-] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago

I hate this centralization of "all games in one", it's eerily similar to the centralization of the internet into the big social media sites.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

My daughter was showing me some of the games-within-games on Minecraft servers. It's insane what people have made. And now Fortnite has racing!?

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

A game named "Brawl stars" on mobile

And they watch tiktok

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Free games like brawl stars, pirated minecraft, are way more popular than paid games like premium minecraft(at least in my country)

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago
[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

I hear forkknife or something like that is popular.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

My son went from fortnite to project zomboid and rimworld, lately rdr and doom eternal. Sometimes terraria and minecraft, but rarely.

I tried getting a 10yo kid playing the emulated version of Fire Red on his tablet. He thought it was too slow and just went back to Roblox

[-] [email protected] -5 points 1 day ago

Tangential point: these games always felt like Legos but without the complexity involved with rotating and making things fit IRL, so I'd rather get my kids Legos. I guess these games are free for anyone who knows how to use a PC/their children, so it's way more accessible, but Insha'Allah I'll be financially blessed enough to buy the real deal.

[-] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

You don't know what minecraft and roblox are, do you ?
