My circle of people doesn't include many who can afford an overseas vacation, no matter the destination.

I'd say it would not be “as common” as USAians visiting Canada, simply because we can't drive from Australia to New Zealand.

But yeah, my guess is that New Zealand is frequently near the top of the list of desired vacation destination, for Australians.

No-one goes to New Zealand, they only come from there ;)

Around 15% of New Zealand's population lives in Australia.

Conversely, around 0.2% of Australia's population lives in New Zealand.

Depends on what side of Australia you are on by the looks of it. West Coast not so much. Japan is the hot spot for the last couple of years other than of course Bali.

I don't know about "as common", it still involves at least a three hour plane trip, but I people who have. I'd say NZ is like our Canada and Bali, Indonesia is like our Cancún.

Yeah common enough. It's pretty cheap holiday and a beautiful place.

Not as common. It's a flight and you have rent a car.

I would imagine it depends on what part of America you're thinking of.

Australians do regularly visit NZ but it's still a long plane trip away so it's the sort of trip where you'd want to be spending at least a few days over there to make it worthwhile. I would guess this is closer to how the southern US states might view Canada. I don't think it would compare with the parts of the US that are within day trip driving distance of Canada, and particularly not those in towns right near the border.
