I wouldn't be surprised, carbs are a Dark Art - the blackest of magic (I say this having cut my teeth on them, and I still don't understand them).

Bike carbs are simpler, but the small engines, minimal cylinder count, independent exhausts, etc, make them especially sensitive.

Simply balancing carbs (getting all carbs to produce the same vacuum) can make a world of difference.

Last time I was shopping for a bike I really wanted to pick up a lovely Suzuki DR650 supermoto that I'd been drooling over for months. Chickened and went for a 'practical' injected bike instead, but that beast still haunts me. A single carburetor, how much trouble could it have been?

I've got a 1980 Honda XR500, basically Honda's equivalent of the DR. It fires right up with two or three kicks, no matter how long it sits.
