While I enjoyed receiving feedback on my art, I'm just getting tired of people ignoring the link in the description, baselessly accusing me of using AI and not apologizing after I correct them. The latest accusation was on Tumblr and it was then that I just thought to myself "you know what, I've had enough of this"

I've kept receipts associated with my art on Internet Archive. I am also vehemently against using AI image generators, especially as someone who has had her art used without permission for usage in an AI output.

While I cherished the positive comments that I got, I don't want to associate what is my hobby with any form of hostility, don't want anxiety about people spreading misinformation about me as an artist so I've decided that from now on, I won't be posting my art online. I'm still going to keep my old art up, I just won't be posting any new art even though I'm still drawing.

what you’re missing is: every time someone says that, they’re saying your style is so clean and smooth, that it must be ai.
PLUS, i wouldn’t be surprised if “ai artists” are now lashing out against actual artists, not to mention: don’t feed the trolls.

have you ever met a compulsive liar in person? they have keyboards.
trolls online are actually mostly sociopaths, and they comment 95x more than regular people, and under many different accounts… when you reply and get upset enough, you become what they would call a “lol cow”, aka, a sensitive genuine human… maybe quit under this name, but don’t quit posting.
provide sufficient proof, and simply don’t engage with ai claimants afterwards. if a mod of a sub or someone with reputation requests proof, politely provide it, ignore all other haters and they’ll move on…

for a troll, a sociopath, it’s all about control. they’re controlling you to get upset, to go to great lengths to prove yourself… they’ll keep on insisting on more proof… frustrating you… and will never say sorry.

some people are real and doing the knee-jerk reaction to constant AI spam… but just don’t worry too much about it, provide reasonable proof once… maybe in a standard way each time you post, and just be a “grey rock” after that… responding only to mods and people with a really good history. (trolls really hate it when you check out their comment history)

really i would say this is an example of “concern trolling”… a tactic of pretending like they’re really concerned about some moral thing, and unreasonably accuse you of being immoral, so you feel compelled to defend yourself… and maybe they can get you flustered and banned….
p.s. do some stop-motion video of you making them.

I love your art, it's sleek, modern and you've got a really distinctive style. Accusations of AI get flung all over the place and honestly some people just wanna be nasty and use that allegation as an excuse. It's shitty and I'm sorry you're getting it in the nevk

[–] [email protected] 5 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Aw thank you Cheese! ❤️ I appreciate it a ton! One of my favourite artists ever stopped posting her new art for the same reason and it honestly sucks. I really wish people would be less nasty sometimes

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 hours ago

I get that Elaine it's shitty and needless

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

I've never seen your art before and went through your profile. Its amazing! I'm sorry you have to deal with this shit. Fun, goofy characters. Don't stop making them!

[–] [email protected] 50 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Ugh, if you want to rant the least you could do would be to write the post yourself instead of using AI to write it for you.

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 day ago

Hey sorry you're getting downvoted! I know jokes don't always translate well online and sometimes it can be hard to tell, but I didn't downvote you 🙂

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Sorry for the downvotes, people need to lighten up and take a joke

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

But without the downvotes we wouldn't have gotten @[email protected]'s comment, which made it funnier.

I shouldn't have written that comment with AI.

This is why I warn people constantly against AI artist witch-hunting. Actual artists such as yourself end up getting shafted by friendly fire incidents. It's a cycle of hate that only escalates.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I kinda deal with that over here in NSFW-land where I'm one of the resident Internet detectives. I get that it's really hard to tell sometimes (and not everyone enjoys trawling though reverse image searches to connect a photo with the user that posted it), but for fuck's sake, if there isn't any hard evidence, people need to just shut the hell up. I can only imagine how much more insufferable and demeaning it would be to hear that be said about my own art/ creations.

(For what it's worth, I think your art is pretty awesome!)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Thanks! 😃 Agreed, I really wish people were less quick to just jump on somebody. There have been times where I was unsure about whether or not an image I'd seen was AI generated but I never went and accused someone because false positives happen and it can be hurtful.

I’m sorry. Somewhat related experience:

As a disabled person who is physically unable to do a lot of things. The advances in AI are pretty cool in that I can do stuff I never had the capacity for before.

But people seem to reflexively demonise anything to do with AI to the point I’m shamed out of even using it as an accessibility tool. It sucks. Sometimes feels like a sort of “moral panic” just like we had back when TV or the internet or dungeons and dragons got big.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I would ignore the people who are vehemently against AI and just do what makes you happy. Most of the time, they are just looking for a fight. I recently commented about how AI allows some disabled people to create art, but many people assume only able-bodied people are using AI. That was a mistake. I soon had some people recommending ways for me to make art without AI, and they would not work for my disability, of course. I had one person say if I'm able to type this comment, shouldn't I be able-bodied enough to make art? My favorite is when a person said look at this disabled person paint using their mouth and another disabled person with low vision that is legally blind both create art and put down any disabled people who need AI, because they don't need AI. Must be nice to live without the constant burden of a disability that prevents you from doing the things you enjoy. I've been shamed so many times for being disabled since I was a teen, disabled people do not need extra shaming.

No way, haven't you heard? There is NO moral use for AI /s

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm really sorry to hear that, and it's a shame for all of us to lose such fun art -- your work is so full of personality.

I hope the AI bubble bursts soon, but it's been very disappointing to see how many people don't value humanity in anything. I can understand peoples' paranoia, with so much worthwhile human art being chewed up, blended and blandly regurgitated by these robots.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Before I left Threads, I saw a lot of AI-generated images that got hundreds, even thousands of likes. I can definitely understand the paranoia which is why I post links to receipts including Paint Tool Sai files with dozens or hundreds of layers. Those files always take such a long time to upload to Internet Archive purely because of how big they are. As someone who has had her art stolen it's hurtful to be accused of using AI. Honestly I think now is a very precarious time for artists to be posting their work online and like you, I hope something changes!

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago

Buncha assholes on the internet? Sounds like a day ending in y.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

as a fellow artist, fuck those guys. they don't deserve to see your posts, so write "go fuck yourself" in a few more words and block em. they don't give your art any consideration, so why should you give them any consideration back? if they can't take a break from having their heads up their asses to view your receipts, then maybe they don't deserve to view your posts in the first place.

please keep posting. i've been more liberal about my use of the block button recently and it's been a real liberating experience.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who cares what others think if AI or not?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, they can be pretty annoying about it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

They can, however, if you let them get to you then they win.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

A lot of "art" nowadays, especially modern, abstract art, does not look like it has a creativity level that exceeds an AI prompt. But I still believe in human creativity. It is just not in everyone claiming to be an artist.

This is a general statement, and not aimed at OP - I don't think I have seen OPs works.

This is maybe the most convoluted way AI worshippers have tried to garner sympathy.
