Sounds super cool, but still don’t know what bonfire does in practical terms. Can anyone elaborate?

Based on this demo the thing itself looks like a discussion forum. But that might be just one facet of its multifaceted everythingness. The documentation seems almost entirely about philosophy, intentions, aspirations, and being extendable, customizable, adjustable, adaptable, and groovy in every conceivable way. It does sound super cool, but honestly it's very hard to find the substance.

You can modify it to do what you want more or less. The only common core is that it is all federated via ActivtyPub, the rest is decided by modules, which include microblogging like Mastodon, but I think (not entirely sure) also group forums like Lemmy. It's early days for the project still.

the website is clear as mud, for sure. maybe it's like lemmy? or mastodon? can't be sure, and the public demo doesn't make it any clearer.

we all need to agree on a standard for 'about' pages so we can collectively reject those that look like that.

''about'' is usually always ''about us'' innit?

btw on the homepage you also got screenshots

the thing is, bonfire is not a single software like mastodon or lemmy, ideally is more like wordpress for platforms
