Why seem Americans to call everybody Marxist they don't like?

A Red Scare is a form of moral panic provoked by fear of the rise of left-wing ideologies in a society, especially communism and socialism. The problem is that many of the Christians in the US aren't Catholic. Thus, it probably won't help if the pope excommunicated them.
