MODERATORS

I never seen this mentioned before, but I often have a situation where someone will ask me to create something, what I've noticed is that nowadays people talk to me about the creation like they talk to an AI chatbot, "make this" "make it look more scary" "make it more mysterious" "give it realistic hands" it wastes a lot of time.

Deliberately put too many fingers on those comissions

That rings true for my experience in corporate/medical media over a decade ago before swearing it off. It was dehumanizing then and I can imagine it's worse now with consumer expectations poisoned by AI.

Scope of work or bust, never take spec work without upfront pay

Hasn't it always been that way?

it's different and noticeable, a while ago they'd actually try to explain what they want like "I want you to remove x and put instead y, change the colors here" something you can actually work with, now it's just adjectives like "make it more pretty"

I don’t do a ton of commissions, but it’s weirder now for sure. I feel like I’ve talked less uhhh… concretely to clients over the past few years. I have noticed that a lot requests do start with “Please” though, “please make it different” “please put more colors on it” “please redo the text.”

Whereas a few years ago a client would just say more clearly what they want you to do. “I’d like you to use a different font. Something that has more energy and pops out. Like this website…”
