Bandcamp Fridays began in March of 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when the shuttering of venues led to a loss of vital tour revenue for artists. Since then, Bandcamp Fridays—on which we waive our revenue share and pass the funds directly to artists & labels—has resulted in millions of fans paying over $120 million directly to labels and musicians they love. In addition to helping artists pay the rent, or fund album recordings and tours, Bandcamp Fridays have also become a beacon for artists and record labels looking to raise awareness for causes or raise money for charities.

And so we’re happy to announce that the next Bandcamp Friday will be on May 2, 2025 from midnight to midnight PST.

Remember to download anything you buy on Bandcamp. It's possible for it to go away, I think if the artist pulls it, and then you're SOL.

Other than that, great service. Definitely recommend buying music over renting it from Spotify

buy vinyl and get the download. most bands have special releases on Bandcamp that are good investment collectables/ rare prints

I think that's good advice for all of them possibly. I've found the same on Qobuz. In fact, took all of one month for one of my items to become unavailable! I had already downloaded the qualities I wanted, so OK there. But still.

So I got myself three Tapes I was holding off for this special occasion:

I simply couldn't pass off Tapes for a tenner :)

It sucks though that they can't duplicate the tapes closer to me which would results in horrendous shipping fees (double the cost of the actual item? no thanks) :/

Bandcamp does some pretty cool things even though it's now owned by a Business-2-Business music licensing company. Makes me wonder how many Bandcamp artists have had their songs 'licensed' by Songtrder (the 'biggest music licensing platform in the world') to other companies without the artists' consent.

p.s. if anyone knows any good alternatives to Bandcamp, please let me know!

Qobuz. To a lesser degree 7digital. Further lessened, HDTracks.

iTunes and Amazon have abysmal quality choices, like none other than MP3 VBR, maybe MP3 320! That's been my experience (been a bit since I used them last).

Thanks!

I'm thinking of an app for musicians to upload their music too. Bandcamp was good, but it's been taken over by corporate power now.

I guess discogs or your local record shop?

Or hope for your artist to have their own shop where they sell their music.

Or soulseek.

Ugh, so much AI generated slop starting to fill up Bandcamp. Enshittification launch countdown is almost complete, I fear...

There's excellent music on there and if you buy stuff from a trusted artist it's a good deal for them, but as a discovery platform it's becoming a dead-internet failure.
