We've got a bunch of new people now so let's bring back a classic post. What low stakes conspiracy theory do you believe that you cannot prove but feels right to you?

I'll start: I believe that dating apps have made a concerted effort to smear in person meeting people and tie it to being "creepy" through social media so you are forced to meet people online(which was the creepy option just 15 years ago)

This is a personal one of mine, and it goes hand in hand with all of the dating app theories I saw on here. "call-in" radio shows about bad dates/cheating etc are all about reinforcing traditional values, creating a moral panic about LGBTQ people and non-traditional relationships. These shows are scripted, syndicated and ran on various drive time radio shows across the USA. The "stories" frequently vilify people who don't fit the trad cis het norm and scare people into assuming that everyone they will try to date is some strawman maniac.

Undoubtedly there are plenty of real life date horror stories. But, dating seems scary enough and shit like this doesn't make it easier for people to connect.

Food companies and restaurants have started putting out products they've released before, but keep labeling them New to draw in people who want to try new things

the-doohickey was paid off by people within the japanese government who wanted to divest from the unification church (probably for racist reasons, but we take what we can get)

Low stakes, but sports are rigged. And this leads me to my personal ever-hate rage belief of the Denmark-England match in the semi-finals of the European championships.
Denmark got screwed in the semi-finals of the European championship against England. The game was rigged. THERE WAS A SECOND BALL ON THE FIELD FFS! AND WHAT ABOUT THAT FUCKING ELBOW? WHAT THE FUCK REF YOURE GOING HOME IN A FUCKING COFFIN I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL KILL YOU THIS IS ACTIONABLE.

I remember reading an article how all major sports are more or less rigged. Can't find it any more though 👁️. It does make sense to me though. I almost never see a fair ref, they're always putting their thumb on the scale in one way or another. I mainly watch football (le socceur for yanks) and everybody from certain teams always goes "well of course we will think the ref is unfair" but those teams are often having more wrong calls made against them. Then other teams will only rarely complain of an unfair judge - not every match. They'd probably say it's because they're better or not sore losers, but the thing is they much more rarely have wrong calls made, and the refs are much often more lenient. And why wouldn't it be rigged? The prizes are massive, teams have budgets equal to small countries, betting is huge, and FIFA is known to be corrupt as fuck. Why would that corruption suddenly not be systemic or structural?

The Japanese government subsidizes the creation of anime with cute kids in it, in an attempt to get people to have kids of their own.

That Trudeau is Castro's son, I haven't done any looking into it (mao-aggro-shining) but like it doesn't affect anything in the real world whether or not it's true and it would be funny if it was, so I choose to believe it

Where I live the minister of justice finds himself in a scandal where a couple of guests at a party at his house took a piss against a cop car that was parked there.

Press calls it peepeegate, I believe pissgate is better. Anyway, he had to explain himself to parliament, cop union is frothing from the mouth in anger. During the hearing they said that he didn't respect cops, to which he said he did, and he'd show that through policy.

So yea what if pissgate is just a plot to up police funding?
