On this day in 1573, the Croatian-Slovene Peasant Revolt began with an attack on the fortress of Cesargrad, near the town of Klanjec. Peasants formed their own government, planning to abolish feudalism and establish self-rule.

Amidst growing incursions by Ottoman forces into the region, local feudal lords ramped up economic demands on the local peasantry. One powerful noble, Franjo (or Ferenc) Tahy was particularly notorious for his cruel and violent treatment of the local populace.

Complaints made by peasants to the central government were ignored, so popular resistance efforts began to develop. The local peasantry refused to pay taxes to Tahy, who responded by sending armed mercenaries to attack them, however they were defeated by armed peasants.

On the night of January 27-28, rebels seized the fortress of Cesargrad, marking the start of the revolt. The peasants formed an alternative government, with serf Matija Gubec elected as leader.

The rebels made long term plans of systemic reform, including replacing feudal lords with peasant officials, abolishing feudal land holdings and provincial borders, canceling obligations to the Roman Catholic Church, opening of highways for trade, and establishing self-rule by the peasants.

News of the uprising quickly spread through the discontented lower classes of the region, who followed suit by fighting back against their oppressors, taking further territory throughout Carniola, Croatia and Styria.

The Croatian Parliament declared the revolutionary peasants traitors. After their initial wave of success, peasant forces suffered a major defeat at Krško on February 5th, which precipitated a further wave of defeats over the coming days.

The rebels made their final stand at Stubičke Toplice on the 9th, where the uprising was crushed for good. Matija Gubec was captured, and Ivan Mogaić, another important revolutionary leader, was killed on the battlefield.

Captives were maimed and tortured by authorities, and Gubec was publicly tortured and executed on the 15th. Although the revolt was unsuccessful, its memory has persisted in the region in the centuries since, with Gubec attaining legendary status in local folklore.

A detachment of Yugoslav volunteers for the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War named themselves the "Grupo Matija Gubec". In 1975, a film based on the events entitled "Anno Domini 1573" was released, and historical re-enactments of the Revolt are held in Croatia every year.

Super Mario: Makai Teikoku no Megami (Super Mario: Goddess of the Demon World Empire) is a 34-page, one-shot manga by Ikkei Kawai published in Shogakukan's Gekkan CoroCoro Comic Haruyasumi Zōkangō (月刊コロコロコミック春休み増刊号, "Monthly CoroCoro Comic Spring Holiday Special") on March 23, 1993. It is an adaptation of then-upcoming Super Mario Bros. film made to promote behind-the-scenes and novelization books.

Due to its short length, a lot of content and characters are cut out to tell a more simplified retelling of the plot. There are also various major differences; for example, Iggy and Spike are de-evolved into Goombas and then die using the meteorite piece to merge the dimensions. The name of the manga is the same as the Japanese name for the film.

NO FUCKING WAY

Just rantingMy dad needs a home health aide. Full stop. My mom has been saying it for the better part of a year, but my brother doesn't seem to really want to apply for one because he thinks he can take care of him since he works from home. There's just no fucking way that's going to happen.

I've been helping my dad nearly the entire month and even though I'm strong enough to hold him up when he loses strength there's just no way to sustain this. My brother has a bad back and tweaked it a week ago when my dad suddenly lost his balance. My dad is also being so fucking stubborn. He knows that we're pushing ourselves to try and keep him safe and even though we have a wheelchair that he can use he refuses to use consistently. My mom also helps, but she's getting up there in age and she also isn't going to be able to help him if he's losing his balance as consistently as he has this past month.

I know the other part of what makes my brother hesitate is having a stranger at home. Heck, I get it. I have my own struggles with social anxiety, but this is just not it. Just thinking about going back to work and leaving him and my mom to struggle trying to get my dad around the house is weighing heavily on me. I don't know what to do.

It would be bad for Trump to allow for the indefinite detention of foreign nationals at Guantanamo Bay without charge and prevent them from legally challenging their detention. It would also be bad if the U.S. Department of Justice claimed that habeas corpus—a legal recourse against unlawful detention—did not apply to Guantanamo Bay because it was outside of U.S. territory. As US Marine who did 5 tours of duty in Iraq, Trump is blatantly ignoring the values I served and fought for.

I should probably write a longer post about this, but does anyone here have any experiences with multiple different forms of psychotherapy? I was kinda lucky to get the opportunity to start group therapy with the first therapist I've met with, but she only does psychodynamic psychotherapy (the kind where you talk a lot about your childhood to figure out the problems within your unconsciousness i guess), but I'm not quite so sure if that's really right for me (kinda feel like my problems are in the here and now and I have to figure out how to deal with them as they come up). I have another appointment with a therapist who does cognitive behavorial therapy but the chances I'll be able to start therapy there are pretty low. Should I just take the chance I've been given and start my therapy with the first therapist or look for other options? Feeling somewhat sceptical of the whole thing tbh, would love to get some input from my comrades, no matter what form it takes. stalin-heart

Hmm I would really like to cry right now, but the last time I cried it was pretty bad and I feel like we’re dealing with a defense mechanism here 😃 Love to be a person (heavily socialized under the patriarchy) who would brag when I was able to shut away my emotions for objectively sad shit as a kid

I think the inevitable arc of the trump admin was they were going to misunderstand antipathy toward tough economic circumstances as support for their social agenda, push that social agenda too far thinking they have support, and face a backlash. Similar to how repealing roe clearly cost them in the 2022 midterms. What’s wild is I think they’ve already done that and public opinion is turning. Like actually crazy how the public wanted to give trump the benefit of the doubt and they may turn on him because the median voter loves DEI.

I'm cookin' with gas with morning.

  • I put the kettle on yet somehow it never whistled. I have gas burners. I only turned on only ventilation fan but I forgot to turn on the burner.

  • I made a title of a post https://archive.ph/ls4VB and it was like that for 15 minutes before I finally caught the error.

  • I made a bad post in c/doomer that I had to delete. I should have known better.

  • I made a yet another bad post had to delete. I put this one in c/technology. I should have known better too.

Hopefully this will be my worst posting day of 2025 and I won't somehow manage to burn my house down. Thank you for coming to my "Not a good day" TED Talk.

[Ninja edit. I managed to finally make coffee without incident. I will not update this post if I spill hot coffee all over myself. There's been enough self-confessional for today.]

Sometimes to break up having to say the same things over and over like you do in a kitchen like 'hot pan' I switch up how I say stuff 'blazing pan here' or whatever and I've noticed a shitload of French has come into rotation there cause I speak it and fuck that's gotta be tough on the esl guys and I should watch out for that.

@[email protected] replying your comment from the previous general megathread

Trump doesn't understand what capitalism is

This is just an idealistic way of viewing things. Trump is protecting his class interests and the class interests of his government and is ultimately in the hands of Capital. This arrangement preceded 20th century European fascism and so making comparisons of Trump to those figures is just muddying the waters in people's minds, if you associate Trump with the dead and buried fascists that USAmericans learn about in school then people will be apathetic.

I don't disagree Trump is acting in his class interests. But do his policies on deportations, tariffs on allies etc. really align with someone who understands how US capitalism works? I think of Trump in contrast to someone like Biden who I believe is actually interested in preserving capitalism, even willing to give small concessions to the workers to try to appease them, but will not stop the exploitation of them.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

But you also have to remember that Biden continued many Trump-era policies, including deportations and detaining migrants, expanding oil drilling etc.

The usefulness of Trump is in that he is able to make the USA appear threatening and strike fear into others. Ultimately, whichever POTUS is in charge will not affect policy in general, but I believe Capital has rallied behind Trump and not Biden because Trump is able to consolidate attention towards himself (through MAGA) and away from working class consciousness. I don't think this was the case in 2016 (where Trump's victory I think was genuinely a fluke) but it definitely is the case now.

Biden projects too much of America's good side (the "face" if you will) and this was exposed in the Al Aqsa flood (also unplanned for by imperialists). This cognitive dissonance wasn't present in 2020 but it is now which is my impression of Trump's victory.

We should be thinking about this in the reverse order, Trump is only able to perform because of US hegemony. Sanction warfare against latam, tariffs and hawkish behavior towards Canada and Europe do benefit the US (hegemony isn't a team effort).

Heya! Playing Odin Sphere's remake on PSVita now, and have a few 3DS roms to try out. Gonna be doing that today and tomorrow. Taking the pups over to stay with my partners place after therapy tomorrow evening, and Thursday my band is playing on a local radio station. So that'll be cool. Get to do an interview too, but no idea what we're gonna talk about. Probably just the new record and summer tour.

Taking the terrier on a special adventure tomorrow, he's been cooped up but 1) doesnt always wanna go out with me and the corgi, and 2) gets colder than the corgi, so a lot of times I just let him cozy up on the couch if he doesn't wanna put his coat on. It's gonna be over 40 out tomorrow, so figure I can get him to come with me a few blocks to hang out.

Beyond that, waiting for my first freelance project review - if I do well, I can keep working, and make a few bucks. In addition, scheduling a final interview for a cool part time job tomorrow. Probably like 30 hours a week, and I crunched the numbers and it'd be enough for me to live on! Not comfortably, but I'd at least be able to pay my rent and bills no problem.

To that end, still looking for a hand with rent - You can use my anonymous venmo @Eric-Zann if you wanna toss me a few bucks, and I have Paypal and Zelle too if you prefer. Thanks all! cuddle

Ok hexbear I'm gonna go play more games I love you bye bye!

trump-drenched : "Folks, let me tell ya—Sailor Moon? Total disaster! They had Naru, right? Great character, beautiful name, very loyal friend. Then poof—gone! Disappeared! Like they’re trying to erase her! SAD! Somebody’s not paying attention, believe me. The folks at Toei Animation? Losers! Bigly mistake. We’re gonna bring Naru back, folks. And when we do? We’re gonna win so much, you’ll get tired of winning."

I really thought I was asking for bare bones shit ya know? Like, “Hey, maybe since the task looks like it will take some time, we should split it up into phases. From here, we can line out what to do and assign people to do different tasks. I don’t think using ChatGPT for everything makes sense.”

Lmao I’m literally telling my fucking manager how to be a manager as someone who has never had a lEaDeRsHiP position in their life
