My first time experience here had been very politically charged and I asked about it in askLemmy and I was told to immediately block you people in the options I was given

I had the opportunity to browse around and found out that you folk were decent and weren't as awful as told in that post I made

How do you view .world and by extension other instances that defederate (and view negatively) towards you?

I'm not a fan of lemmy.world for 2 reasons:

  • They are the biggest instance,
while the fediverse should be spread out,
to prevent centralization/monopoly over the system.
  • They de-federated from instances in the past (e.g. dbzer0), and I don't like sensorship.

However I do not hate them, nor their users,
just not a fan.

I'm not that familiar with Hexbear,
but also haven't ran into any issues with their users either.

Deferating means one cannot see communities etc right?

Im on db0 but I can see .world communities and users.

Or does defederating allow the blocked instance to see the content still?

.world specifically banned discussion or promotion of piracy because the admins are intellectual property nerds, and I think blocked the piracy comms of db0

i was against federation from the beginning and remain locals only. i only see non-locals if non bears come to our local places and unfortunately it's usually to shit the place up. grad is ok

I've had very few interactions with them, but lately I've counted more instances of being surprised to see an anticapitalist comment coming from one of them

They'll get banned eventually

They're the dregs of reddit, they're racist suburban trust fund brats who spend most of their time online roleplaying psychotic fantasies about a new American century or some other white nationalist nonsense

They genuinely make normal Redditors look well-adjusted and politically coherent, unfortunately we're stuck to the hip with these fools cause they happen to use lemmy as their musty incel den

I think of myself like a little Nick Mullen character who's doing large scale social experiments by pitting fantasy races against each other while I watch, smug look behind an observation deck on a magical cloud, at the lemmyworlders come up with a creation myth about their society and ours where we are basically the devil. It's amazing.

edit: found the bit cw: fatshaming and homophobia

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Well, honestly, although I believe there are some good people from the instances defed'd, I believe the operators of jlai.lu, lemmy.world, sh.itjustworks, beehaw.org, sopuli.xyz, etc. still hold onto the western brainworm that no matter how bad Europe and U.S is, their reaction is "still the best system".

In fact, without resorting to saying things that would get removed from their instances, if I went there, my view is essentially essentially that of the author of Masses, Elites, and Rebels, regarding the western working class, who I would argue, are made passively complicit and thus feel somewhat attached to U.S-Europe hegemony

"Mear" is "to piss" in Spanish :D

I don't think about them at all to be honest. HB is my home and apart from the occasional clueless liberal or genuine wrecker/troll who wanders by, I'm content to hang out with my trans, leftist comrades and just post about beans.

I don't really care about the rest of the lemmyverse, what i've seen of it seemed full of redditors and that's not something anybody should waste their time with.

I was touching grass when we flipped the federation switch, so I don't really think about any of those other instances or even distinguish between them much tbh.

In my experience, the only people who seem to have a bad time here are reactionaries who aren't used to having their views challenged and can't drop arguments that they're badly losing — we do have a tendency to treat them like we're outdoor cats batting around a lizard we caught before they get banned. But this place is pretty chill as long as you're not dead-set on being a bigot.

.world pre-emptively de-federated us (as a last resort). We have thankfully never had to interact with them.
