Not so fast! Korea's legislature stopped the president. Trump's royal bumlickers in congress will allow the United States to get to full fascism first.

USA! USA! USA!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 hour ago

You mean: "America first"

[–] [email protected] -2 points 43 minutes ago (1 children)

From what I've read, isn't the president trying to stop the fascism from the NK sympathizers?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 27 minutes ago

No, he's accusing them of being what he is, a time-honored tactic that Trump also utilizes.

Life imitates art

[–] [email protected] 14 points 16 hours ago

Occupied korea has a history of that to be fair

He's already "joking" about a 3rd term.

Thing is, this clown doesn't joke.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

My current conspiracy theory is that he is gonna get assassinated by the """far left""" (aka totally not the Republican party), which will trigger a full fascist takeover. He's too old for me to imagine him being able to make it through a full second term, and too unpredictable for Republican politicians to actually want him to be around; so the ideal situation would be to have him publicly assassinated and use that to drum up support for massive surveillance and restrictions on personal freedom.

His dad lived to 93 and his mum until 88. He might be with us for another couple of decades

[–] [email protected] 19 points 21 hours ago

Yeah even if he doesn't get assassinated, I do think he's nothing more than an idiotic puppet for the real enemies to democracy to command.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 19 hours ago

This is where I disagree. I've watched this trump fellow for quite some time. The universe has a ginormous hard on for the guy, sure there might be 100 assignation attempts but guaranteed he squeaks through each one of them.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

He has 2 options.

First is the obvious saying that there’s nothing stopping him from running for a 3rd term, and once again using Jim Crow era vote suppression and other slimy tricks to win again.

The second option is to just declare that presidency is a for-life position. He can do that, after all.

And he’s making that last part perfectly clear. He is above the law. There are no consequences for him breaking the law, and nothing stopping him from doing whatever he wants. The people who could are so polite that if words won’t stop him, they say more words at him. That’ll do it!

Appeasement has worked in the past right? /s

[–] [email protected] 15 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

There's no way. I think he's legit too old, and he only needs 1 term to pardon himself and everyone he wants.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Sorry man nothing in the constitution says you can't run for president on life support /s

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

If the Constitution actually matters then he can't be president.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

NRG 5, lentils/beans/peas/chickpeas, pasta, tomatoe paste and vitamins. Always good to have enough of these for a few weeks, Trump or no Trump.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 17 hours ago

Lentils and beans, baybeee

Are the pro-NK folks in the room with us now?

Seriously, are there really pro-NK supporters in SK? That seems ridiculous. Does that guy just really want to start a war with NK or smth?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 minute ago

Other comments touched on it, but it makes more sense to look at them as pro reunification rather than pro NK. They're still nutty, but not quite as nutty as being pro NK. This is the same group desperately trying to downplay NK involvement in Russias invasion of Ukraine because calling it what it is might damage chances at reunification.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 45 minutes ago

Last government talked about reunification the same way US talks about a 2 state solution in Israel. He talked about this without occupying US approval as a long term goal. Yoon is full US puppet that wants war. Logic is similar to everyone who thinks a war on Russia is a bad idea can only be paid by Putin.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

In my complete lack of knowledge of SK politics it appears to be an unpopular president accused of corruption trying to stay in power to avoid... The said corruption chargers

[–] [email protected] 7 points 19 hours ago

Yeah, that's how I'm interpreting it as well, but I could be a bit biased given the fact it seems to be going on everywhere

[–] bdonvr 14 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Seriously, are there really pro-NK supporters in SK?

I'm definitely not saying it's a common thing at all but US and western media really, super play up the image of the DPRK and the tension on the peninsula.

And also see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_Party_(South_Korea,_2017)

They ran Kim Jae-Yeon for president. She once said:

On 4 June 2012 during an interview with KBS, the emcee asked her to confirm her view towards North Korea. She answered, "If a person does not want to recognise North Korean regime, it means that he/she wants a war with them". When the emcee also asked about what if North Korea attacks the South, she replied, "Still, we should not fight back."

She received 37 thousand votes. Not a lot, but they do exist.

Any more left than them tend to get banned under "National Security" laws.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 19 hours ago

I mean, isn't she just saying it doesn't make sense to fight back since that could lead to war with a nuclear power?

Idk seems like the thing a smarter Israel would've said, and Hamas never even had nukes.

That said, I can totally see how a more ignorant voter could be convinced that is supportive of NK. Just seems like some animal farm shit. Like, "Snowball is all-powerful and we must be ready to give up everything you hold dear to fight!"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

are there really pro-NK supporters in SK?

Yes, but the people Yoon is going after are not actually NK supporters

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Seriously, are there really pro-NK supporters in SK?

They have been separated from their families by a military occupation from people thousands of miles away who drew an arbitrary border and put them under a dictatorship with the most brutal fascists the local population could produce. There's a reason in America they call it "the forgotten war". It's real bad what went down there and there's no moral equivalence with the two different sides.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 20 hours ago

While Israel is off camera to the right

[–] [email protected] 49 points 22 hours ago

More like .....

[–] [email protected] 41 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Didn't I hear about him getting a list of military folks who he wants to replace with those loyal to him.

That could be interpreted to mean that he started talking about it first.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 21 hours ago

That's basically what Saddam Hussein did.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 18 hours ago

I mean, he already talked about using the military against his political opponents and the mass deportation.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 20 hours ago

He doesn't need martial law, the SCOTUS already essentially declared the president a dictator.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 22 hours ago

"Dictator on Day One"

🙄
