EM POC ONLY!!!

This is home for me.

I love all of my comrades on c/em_poc, but I wanna especially give a huge shoutout to @[email protected] for doing a lot to help me keep my composure. I don't know if they quite realize how much I appreciate them!

Each and every single one of you makes me feel less alone through these struggles, though.

I hope all of you are well! sankara-bass

How does everyone deal with skepticism of science based healthcare? Not sure if that's the right phrase, but its the only way I can think of describing it. My mom was just talking to me about a naturalist doctor claiming that there was an assassination attempt against them and honestly I don't even know where to start.

I get where some of the skepticism comes from considering the long history of white society using POC as their guinea pigs for medical advancements. And the fact that in the West, especially in the US, healthcare is more about profit than it is about actually helping people doesn't help. At the same time I feel like people take the skepticism too far and no matter what I've tried to say in the past about individual healthcare providers not being the problem, but rather the system that encourages profit over health people still fall back on their skepticism.

There was like a survey done that found a find number of nurses and doctors that believed that black people have higher pain tolerance than white people

I remember that or a similar study.

Shit sucks because it feels like there's no in between. Just full on dehumanization on one end and dangerous misinformation in the other. Like I myself have some of that skeptcisim, especially when it come to mental health, but its grounded in history and studies such as the one that you mentioned.

my friends all think im crazy for being afraid of doctors. hate alternative medicine more tho

[-] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

Most of my family is the opposite. Big on natural and alternative medicine. Nothing wrong with that, but the way they completely disregard everything else is a bit bothersome.

I'm most comfortable talking to my mom about it, but when I talk about all the systemic issues around healthcare she just goes back to blaming individuals and talking the type of shit that I hear from right wingers. But IDK... Maybe I shouldn't let it bother me as much as it does.

I mean its pretty reasonable to be at least a bit bothered

Being a vegan of color has made white people even more untrustworthy in my eyes.

White carnist "leftists" are often on some white savior shit where they try to paint veganism as reactionary, racist, and colonialist, and when a non-white vegan disagrees with them, they show their true colors.

I have had some horrid mask-off moments with white carnists who do this.

Revisiting the Libyan NATO invasion every once in a while to compare it to current geopolitical situations, crazy how the Arab league sanctioned the Jamahariya in such a short time, but then still having trades with the zionist entity. And like it was all for non valid reasons.

crazy how the Arab league sanctioned the Jamahariya in such a short time, but then still having trades with the zionist entity.

Did they have a referendum on the sanctions, and which country voted for which? I'm guessing the Khaleej kkkompradors had something to do with it (i.e. Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia)

[-] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

The Arab League vote for a no-fly zone was opposed only by Syria and Algeria, reports from the Cairo meeting said.

Mal-fuckin-dita... only thre remaining Arab Socialist OGs opposed it... if only Hussein and Gaddafi's gov'ts were still here today... and Egypt not turned to revisionism...

Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
