If you're wondering how much energy the EV on the right saves compared to a typical Ford F-150, the answer may not surprise you.

I remember when guys used to go for sports cars like the orange but now the symbol of status is having a 15,000 lb bomb blast resistant ied truck.

I hate cars but have a begrudging respect for tiny little 2 seater sports cars. At least that's how you have a midlife crisis with style

Same, at least it must be fun to drive. I seriously wouldn't not want to drive the cyberstuck since I'm sure it handles like a brick.

as time goes on, the tide continues to turn for MX5/Miata and Su🅱ra owners

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

I've owned both a Miata and an MR2 before middle age, and they're both fun little cars that are decently cheap, economical, and reliable. But neither are very fast, practical, or safe. Sort of a compromise between a motorcycle and a sedan.

The new cool thing is suburban assault vehicles? That's some boomer-ass definition of coolness grillman

isn't the old one basically a lotus elise? (i googled it, for like 77%)

I assume it's a Te$la because it's at the bazinga-specific charging station, and the logo is there too.

If you mean it looks like a Lotus Elise, well...

The Tesla Roadster is an electric-converted Lotus

I assume it was a thing before my-hero bought "founder" status years later and started designing his own personal The Homer.

Unfortunately not. And he got so mad at top gear for criticizing it he sued BBC multiple times.

Don't think he enjoyed them showing the non electric version out performing it

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Actually I think that's exactly how it went. He bought Tesla from a couple of other guys.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

top gear are somehow worse than Elon and actually deserved to get sued for that piece which made false claims about the car to fit their anti-electric narrative. I don't think Elon enjoyed being the target of brazen lies as much as he does making them. This was back when topgear brained chuds hated Elon because electric cars are woke unlike their emotional support trucks, now he has won them over by being an open nazi but they still won't buy his cars mostly.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i thought they bought frames from lotus, rather than converting in the usual sense

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

I don't mean that they bought entire cars and took the gasoline powertrain out. But literally everything besides the drivetrain is Lotus. Tesla didn't build the physical car

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

oops i misread only 7 % but still

I'm still pissed about the ORIGINAL Tesla business model. 'Let's make high-end sports car, that happens to be electric, and the take the learnings to make a super-cheap version!'

The high-end sports car is literally branding. What, are you going to make an F1 racecar that's electric? Your 'high-end' sports car is gonna SUCK because it's not a huge NAME BRAND. You're making your customers out to be chumps!

Also, fuck Melon Tusk.

This is literally what Nio is doing and it is working for them. They made the EP9 and converted the lessons into cars you can drive without a HANS.

This is exactly what they did and it worked. Nio builds both Formula E cars and consumer vehicles. Granted the EP9 didn't suck and didn't have the perception of sucking because it broke the Nurburgring record. The difference is that Nio was able to hemorrhage money for a while because they had state backing. I'm not quite sure how their battery swap tech is working right now, but Nio certainly makes good cars.

I'm not familiar with Nio, it's nice to be proven wrong, that the model is possible. Thanks!

it appears the F-150 emits 370 grams of CO2 per mile driven.

a Cybertruck uses .5 kwh per mile, and so if it's getting charged by a supercritical coal plant, about 400g CO2 per mile. this isn't counting transmission losses, since it also takes energy to get gas to the pump.

factoring in upstream CO2, the f-150 is 464g, the Cybertruck is 444g with transmission losses. CO2 from mine to power plant/kg of coal/kwh is a metric i'm not prepared to calculate right now.

is that tail pipe only or is it including all the fuel infrastructure and construction emissions too?

there is one that drives around my podunk town and yes, the driver looks exactly like you'd expect wojak-nooo

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

He'd demonstrate how "zombie apocalypse proof" his bazingamobile is by underhand throwing a hammer very gently at it, right? so-true
