New research shows a massive generational divide in game genre preferences. A study by MIDiA Research surveyed 9,000 gamers across several countries including the US, UK, Germany, and South Korea. It found that online player-vs-player games are more popular than single-player ones among audiences aged 16-24. Only 30% of this bracket wants to play alone, while a whopping 68% of them would rather play online or couch co-op.

Co-op > singer player >>>>>>>>>> pvp

I married a gamer. Co-op games are 90% of my gaming and it's mostly fantastic.

This only works if you have a spouse or friends :(

Precisely how I feel. I love playing something cooperative and I dislike when it's some PVP fps game. Baldurs gate with some friends or divinity, the borderlands series is great coop fun too

I'm not 55 yet, but I was also way more into online games when I was in my 20s than I am now.

I prefer coop games tbh.

I'm too old for the sweaty pvp shit, I just wanna build cool shit with my comrades.

You don't like getting screamed at by unattended 11yo claiming they did unspeakable things to your great-grandmother? OK Boomer

And I play both in my mid 30s equally.

I'm 21 and only play singleplayer stuff.

I do think that the fact I actually started playing games at 19 ( that'd when I got a laptop that could run games decently ) and the fact that no rl friend of mine had a pc just left me with mp/coop games with no friend's to play with and I just didn't like them.

So nowdays I play singleplayer stuff, especially latelly on the used ps4 I bought, stuff like bloodborne, yakuza 0, god of war, nier automata, ..., and elden ring rn.

I'm not that old, but time is flying at me, and in my experience it's that older people don't have the same time options and skill level to "git gud" at newer games and that just makes online games less fun for some of us. So single player games we can take our time on and finish without somebody in the headset barking at us. I really prefer things like Fortnite STW these days, I can log in and choose to pair up with others or go it alone and I have the option to choose my difficulty level with the different biomes.

It's ok, one day Gen Beta will be the same way with the Z's, it's the circle of life.

I still play online some, but I've come to the conclusion I'm not great at it and never will be and I'm ok with that.

In other news they used to make good single player game and now they don’t.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, they defs do. Just less. Also, the trend seems to go towards single player again, so maybe there’s hope for the future. Big multiplayer releases bombing is definitely a sign for devs, too.

Gen-z also gets massive psychological trauma because online multiplayer games suck, needing to deal with other gen Z people online.

My old ass can't compete in multiplayer games anymore.

Now I enjoy my slow pace / turn-based games when I want to relax.

It makes sense to me the older we get, the less time we spend gaming.

If I have to trade a solid 8 hours of sleep or play 1 hour or 2, the bed is winning.
