/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

"But the recipe said to include a thumb of ginger."

Almost like our tools are alien to him for some reason.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sure, but any advanced culture would still have basic cutting tools. The handle may vary based on species.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe Talaxians traditionsally use the scissor-hands method

Damn you, take my upvote

They're talking about the non-dominant hand. Neelix's way will get those digits chopped off.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

I'm just pointing out both hands are wrong.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Nelix is not gripping the food near the point of contact with the blade. And holding the blade like that, he's not speed chopping anything.

Claw grip's only really important if you're working quickly with your gripper near the cutter.

Clearly, this indicates that only the officers on board had to ensure Nelix's cooking. He'd never be fast enough to cook for all 150ish crew members.

True. Your example is what I do. My main concern was the food holding hand.

Edit: post updated, thanks

Doesn't load for me. I think the URL got mangled

Any better?

Edit: saved image and uploaded. Now?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Much worse. Haha

Nah, he's using a 24th Century knife with SawStop built in. If it touches skin it automatically stops cutting.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Talaxian skin has an E class cut resistance rating. Simple 15° ground stainless steel is no match. There's no excuse for how he's holding the blade, though.

Neelix bullshit his way in the door, but eventually became a decent moral officer/ambassador. Now I wonder about the accuracy of Riker's portrayal as a chef.

But then I'd have to rewatch that finale. Let's assume he knows what he's doing.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Ooof. Yeah, let's assume. (But I'd bet Frakes knows his way around a kitchen.)

How to tell if someone worked front-of-house or back-of-house during their struggling actor days.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But why are you complaining? It might actually improve the flavor.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

And the more fingers he loses, the less likely he'll be able to cook. You could be on to something.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I am this close to ordering the two Star Trek cookbooks.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm sure there's some good recipes, just don't count on Neelix to teach good form. Dude lied on his resumé just to hitch a ride.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'd trust Neelix with my life!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Jesus, it's like Snape made him cut those...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Maybe those pics are taken from an episode where he was taking out his feeling on his ingredients.

Gordon Ramsey would lose his shit on him
