Any costume that a human wear is an ape costume.

I’m confused. What is this proving? I think the original comment was joking that any clothing that humans wear can be considered an ape costume since humans are apes.

Honestly, I thought the picture is showing that humans are apes, given that we share a common ape ancestor. (And if we go further back, we are all primates, mammals, animals, etc)

Thanks for pointing out the obvious on my behalf.

He's saying we're not apes, they're our cousins.

We're all descendents of a common primate. But apes are their own thing.

Afaik Apes are a thing humans are included under. The apes are the family Hominidae great apes and include the currently alive primates humans, orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and the lesser apes, gibbons.

I believe you are correct.

It appears the confusion is around great apes VS lesser apes and the way it's worded.

We are all descended from great apes, but lesser apes are our cousins.

I mean, this would be the first theory to try. Then after finding many specimens, if various other ancestors are found, then you change the theory. That's science for you, always improving.
