How long will @[email protected] keep posting picture of wood stick before people start to notice?!

It is my viral marketing campaign for my Etsy store!

...and people try to say Lemmy doesn't have niche communities! 😆

Proof that the Flock of Seagulls hairstyle has evolutionary value.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

May the owl-boy look have a successful comeback!

Woah those owls don't look real, super cool!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

If you think he is out there, check out this little Oriental Bay Owl. He looks out of this world!

He's high on my list of 250+ favorite owls! Nothing else looks like it.

First look at that picture, I thought it was wearing a dark green beret.

Surprised French Owl, has had too much cafe time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Oh it does almost look like a little cap!

It reminds me of the phrygian hat from the Olympics this year.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Imagine being the first human to encounter one of those in a dark forest.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And the spooky sounds calling back and forth on a dark night!

There's no shortage of cultures where owls are cryptids or gods, and it's no surprise. Even today, they can fill us with both wonder and unease.

Woo… wooohooo… can’t be a coincidence that classic ghost noises sound exactly like owl calls.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Also the shrieking ones like barn owl, and the Barking Owl is also called the Screaming Woman. Tales about people getting lost in swamps and such trying to find her are the source of many monster stories. Look those calls up if you get a chance!

Me too, thanks

Lol here at c/Superbowl, everyone should feel free to be wild! 😆

I’ve finally found my home on Lemmy.

If you’re not into North American politics, communism or Linux, it takes a while to find your people but yeah.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Hah, too true! I like parts of all those things, but I like to make the owls my main contribution here.

It's fun stuff 99% of the time unless I need to do a PSA on poison or the environment. That I would say is the reason this community is pretty popular. We're as apolitical as pro-environmental and animal rights people can be, we keep it positive, look at cute animals with amazing superpowers, and we nerd out.

I post 2 or 3 things a day, so there will always be something good for you when you check in.

Sexual selection implies that these owls find tree bark sexy on some level

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Come on, who isn't into some good tree bark?

It also lets them get some beauty rest during the day, just making them even better looking.

I was going to say this is just him in alert mode, trying to pretend to be a branch. The plan was to show you some pictures of Eurasian Scopses being fluffy and happy, but it seems they always look pretty mad. They do get less creepy looking though... sorta... 😅

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It does look a lot more chill in that second to last one, where it’s not being held by its feet. Although then there’s the last one where it looks like a satanic wood chip.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

the last one where it looks like a satanic wood chip.

You guys come up with the best stuff! 😆

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They look like you just told them they’re not getting a raise

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

True! It's very similar to my face after my monthly 1:1 meeting yesterday! 😑

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why does this remind me of Barad-Dûr?
Too bad I'm too bad at image editing. 😔

Woohoo! : )

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Such a good photo, it took TWO photographers to make it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm glad someone picked up on that! I thought it was cute they shared credit.

Was it one to spot, one to get the pic? One is the photographer and the other does the Lightroom? Somebody holds the camera and the other works the shutter? One makes cutesy noises to get it to look at the camera?

So many possibilities!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

or one of those is the name of the posing owl? who knows!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

I could see his name being Sergio! 🤣

Came here for the strange looking owl, stayed because of great Op comebacks.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

This owl was really a surprise hit. I never expected this one to be so popular.

The pics are really just to entice you in here to have a good time. I do talk a ton about owls, but I try to tell you weird stuff that you would have never guessed, and otherwise it's just a few of us throwing nerdy references, puns, dad jokes, and esoteric thoughts back and forth.

I am glad you enjoyed what you found, and I hope you become a regular. I try to talk to everyone that shows up and takes the time to leave a comment.

A wise owl always has at least 1 eye open!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Where are the owl?, why did you post a picture of tree bark on owl community

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Owls have muscular control over their feathers, so they can contour their overall shape to look more branch-like as in this picture, and they can even move the tiny feathers of their face to focus different soundwaves to their ears.
