I'm not that interested in having porn on my feed but I don't want to disable NSFW either. How can I block an entire instance like lemmynsfw?

I don't have the answer, but this seems like yet another case why we need a difference between nsfw and porn. I think that is the real fix, porn and other stuff like swearwords aren't the same.

It would be nice if you could have a couple categories. Like NSFW, NSFL, Porn. Idk what else haha

I'm 100% not ok with NSFL stuff and usually am not gonna to be interested in porn, but I'm ok with slightly NSFW content that is sort of subjective. Let's say there's a picture of someone in a bikini. That's subjective and some people will mark it NSFW and some won't. So yes, I totally agree that it would be nice to have various degrees of NSFW and you can opt on or out depending on what you're comfortable with.

Your best option is probably to change the feed view from “All” to “Subscribed” and subscribe to the community’s that you’re interested in seeing content from

This works for things I'm explicitly interested in seeking out, but one thing I use this type of social media for is finding entirely new things that before scrolling past I didn't even know were things, or wouldn't otherwise seek out on my own or even know to look for. I don't have any objection to porn, but I also don't want to be scrolling past it on my phone with my kids around, even if it's blurred or minimized. Having to block each individual community as it pops up isn't feasable--being able to block by server (like a general block on lemmynsfw) would make general use so much easier.

Totally agree, but at the moment it’s the best Lemmy has to offer.

I don’t have any experience with kbin, but I’ve heard you can control which instances you see content from there and can also see/interact with content from Lemmy.

This is unfortunately not a feature..

Ngl that's kind of a shocking oversight given the nature of the internet

I'm hoping wefwef adds some in-app blocking and favoriting functionality in a future release. It's one of the things I'm missing most from Apollo. 🤞🏼

On every website I've ever ever been on, opting in for NSFW means opting in for porn. If you don't want porn, disable NSFW, and block any communities that don't use proper NSFW tags. If you want to sometimes view NSFW/porn, but not always, make an alt account, preferably on a NSFW-focused instance.

I learned this lesson on Mastodon, but all means ALL. It is an uncontrolled firehouse of posts without any algorithm to filter it. By design, if a single BeeHaw user subscribes to a porn community, then the entire instance shows up in everyone's all feed, unless BeeHaw defederates.

You could always make a feature request with the Lemmy devs, but they are swamped with all the bug reports and feature requests. There is no way to tell when or if the feature you're asking will be implemented, and when BeeHaw will update to it. So to answer your question, no there isn't. You'll need to disable NSFW.

Unfortunately the only way to block is to manually go in and block it. The good news is that the majority of it comes from a few communities so you dont have to manually go through and block EVERY community from them all at once.

From there much like weeding a garden you can block the porn communities as it comes

You just have to visit the instance and then click block in the sidebar
