He lived with us almost all his life (we adopted him from an "accidental litter" together with his brother who passed away last summer) and has been a good comrade to all other rats he has hung out with, outliving many of them.

    i love the little hammock. my rat, Stretch, only made it a year (he got a tumor and had to put him down). never got another after that.

    they are so smart one day we'll life extend them and they'll just inherit our civilization

    Made me think of Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents. It's a cute children's book by Pratchett where intelligent rats (accidentally enhanced by magic trash at the Unseen University) run "pied piper" scams on unsuspecting villages. I've loved this book for close to two decades now.

    Oh you sweet, poor thing, I've lost so many myself, and it always hurts so much. Rats don't live nearly long enough for all the love and affection they give. My heart aches for you.
