So I missed some account migration period and I've been getting the run around but automated chat services all morning.

Did Microsoft just buy Minecraft so they could disable accounts and recharge people later? I just want to play on the server my friends just created but now I can't?

There's no way to recover your account. You have to pay for the game you bought again and if you try emailing them you'll get stonewalled.

This is the same company that runs Windows btw, the hegemonic operating system.

And the same that runs our AI overlords...

Yes, account migration is over. They stole yer minecraft and you need to buy it again.

Fuck Micro$$oft

Hey OP, just pirate it. Use the cracked MultiMC (blanking on name) it'll work fine for single player and mods.

This was some bullshit, unfortunately. Far as I'm aware nobody who had their account disabled has been able to squeeze a drop back from Microsoft, even though you're obviously legally entitled.

even though you're legally entitled

This is why consumer "laws" will always be just a suggestion to corpos, many such cases of them simply ignoring these things.

While this is very true, it's also relatively common for such breaches to actually be remedied by lawsuits (though obviously not from the poorest people who have no way to fund that). And in the UK for instance, I've successfully forced the hands of a few companies via the fair trading office, financial ombudsman and advertising authorities; All it took in those cases was a couple emails to the right place. Consumer laws do help.

I suspect Microsoft is big enough, and the population who haven't had their Minecraft account back is probably small and poor enough, though, to indeed be denied their rights.

I really don't understand what this means but I'll assume it's a positive!

It really would seem that there's no way to recover your account now, I saw a video by someone who deliberately sacrificed a Minecraft account to see what would happen, and that seemed to be his conclusion, that it's just lost and you have to buy the game again.

We stole from you. Was this helpful?

Fuck it I guess, I will not be paying them again.

Have you ever played Minetest? It's supposed to be like a FOSS alternative to Minecraft.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

No but I wouldn't be opposed to it. The problem would be trying to convince all my friends to migrate from the Minecraft server they're already playing on.

I know if I dig my heels one of them will gift me a Minecraft account, but fuck that, that's letting the Microsoft terrorists win so I'll just keep my mouth shut I suppose.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 months ago

I dream of a day when everyone migrates to minetest, and mod developers port their mods, and Minecraft can have a second golden age.

Minetest is already feature pairity except for some UI smoothing out

Ask your friend to enable cracked clients there is a server config change (online mode something) that needs to be done. That's what I did on mine.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 months ago

Good luck. They bungled the transition earlier, allowed people to just claim accounts, and then had a 2 MONTH waitlist to get help.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

I turned on support for cracked clients on my server, because about half the people who play on it missed the deadline. A lot of longtime players I play with will only pick it up for a few months once every 3-5 years, and so obviously they weren't paying attention to this arbitrary money grab deadline.

Customer support chat bots have been evidence for the longest time that you can’t make a robot successfully do the job of a person

I only have emails reminding me to migrate to a "Mojang" account, so mine's definitely long gone by now.

Still have my original receipt email from Feb 2010, when the game had <5000 sales according to archive.org

Only ever pirated it in the previous 8 years, been like 4 since I've played it at all though.

Try pollymc (two l's) ;) That's just for java though

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Prism is the preferred launcher now. Polymc got taken over by some anti-lgbtq guy.

This isn't polymc it's pollymc, which is actually based on prism, but with drm removed and some other features added
