Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

You hear that, Lefty? It's payday!

Fines for illicit drug posession in the state of Michigan can reach up to $25,000 for personal use btw. Heroin addicts are forced pay 25k and child mutilators only have to make a down payment on a used car.

Does that even cover a hospital bill in the US?

My interpretation was that this is just a fine as a deterrence and the kid will have to sue them to get actual compensation. Of course the fine is so ridiculously low it wouldn't deter jack shit.

That's probably the case/intent, since that article called it a fine. And yes you're right, it's a very trivial fine to a large enough corporation - I'd assume it's cheaper to pay half a dozen fines and settlements than to systematically prevent this kind of thing from happening. The 'recall formula' scene in Fight Club comes to mind.

Lmao nowhere even close, just walking into an ER usually costs at least $3k if you're uninsured amerikkka-clap

Most ambulance rides in the US are around that cost alone

Now ask yourself this, did they stop the grinder and clean up all equipment that may have come into contact with the hand? Or are we all eating a bit of human flesh from all the accidents that happen?

I doubt you are serious but ive worked around these machines and grinders have to be cleaned pretty religiously since the whole grinding part tends to make it waaaaay easier for contamination/gross shit to happen. Most of them are very east to clean and wash out with most of the parts being removeable. They have to clean that shit everyday anyway if they want to prevent total filth.

I worked in a small meat place with a mom and pop owner who were fucking insane people and we kept that shit spotless everyday lol.

That said im sure the owner of this place is cackling at the fine they received
