I'm curious what people make of the broader allegations of a history of child endangerment and irresponsible behavior with kids beyond the lurid sexual accusations.

For instance, do you consider the claims that he held his new born over the railing of a balcony credible? Is that part of a broader rumor mill? What do you make of that?

[-] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 1 points 8 hours ago

I'm saying that considering the availability of credible accusors, I think you're defining who counts as a credible accusors in a selective way to maintain your prior assumptions.

I'm not saying this to be snide or disrespectful. I'm just asking if it's possible you're letting a bias go unnoticed.

Safechuck allege that Jackson sexually abused them when they were children–Safechuck from 1988 to 1992 and Robson from 1990 to 1996. They give graphic descriptions of Jackson's alleged sex acts, including masturbation, oral sex and anal sex, which they say took place at his home, Neverland Ranch, and other locations.

Robson and Safechuck claim that Jackson said these acts were "romantic," and that they did not realize they were inappropriate until adulthood.

Do you know the "no true Scotsman" fallacy? Because I regret to inform you that I believe you're falling prey to it.

This is a topic that doesn't get discussed much, but if you stop and think about it for a moment you might realize that we're all aware of it, we just basically have a cultural taboo against thinking about it.

Have you ever noticed that sleepovers are almost always gender-segregated? Why do you thick that is?

[-] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 2 points 11 hours ago

It's uncomfortable but true.

Have you ever heard of kids playing Doctor? It's not like kids routinely engage in sexual acts, but left alone at night it's very common for them to do things like undress and compare bodies. Often it's benign, but without an understanding of safe touches, it's easy for such encounters to be unintentionally harmful.

I do believe he molested children, although I think the reason we have trouble accepting it is that I think there are a bunch of types of molestation, and we as a culture have a poor understanding of what these are, and so we struggle to recognize them.

Epstein, for instance, sought the youngest possible post-pubescent girls in order to get off on taking their innocence.

Jackson, imo, sought out intimate friendships with prepubescent children for companionship, and those unsupervised interactions included nudity and touching of an inappropriate nature.

Both are child abuse. But they look different. Jackson got away with it (and still does, in a sense) because we don't understand his motivations the way we can for Epstein, so we can't recognize what happened.

I have so much admiration for everyone involved in this. The stories of loss are unbearable.

But what is really, clearly unbearable, for Zionists, is to see that it's possible to be scared and angry and still recognize the humanity in everyone, and seek peace over vengence.

It's no wonder Zionists hate this event so much. Can you imagine seeing others demonstrate the courage and moral integrity you've abandoned? And knowing that it's proof that contrary to your constant claims, you have no entitlement to your cruelty: you're just a hateful, selfish monster?

It's an incredible display of the power of unbreakable hope. May we all find peace and success soon, soon, soon.

I really liked this book, but I didn't consider it sci fi.

I don't mean that I'm a gatekeeping way: I don't think it takes place in the future. I think it's just contemporary.

Good book none the less, though.

As sick as all this is, I think of it as a positive development that it's out in the open now.

Things were already terrible when Israeli society concealed this kind of behavior. At least now the ugliness is exposed to the world.

With West Bank under total Israeli closure, settlers are seizing the moment

Israeli settlers have killed two Palestinians and raided dozens of villages amid the war with Iran, as the army restricts movement and backs up the attackers. By Oren Ziv and Basel Adra March 4, 2026

Palestinians in the village of Qaryut mourn the killing of two residents who were shot dead by an Israeli settler, occupied West Bank, March 3, 2026. (Oren Ziv)

With global attention fixed on the escalating U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, Israel has imposed a total military closure on the occupied West Bank. Israeli settlers, backed by the army, are seizing the opportunity to try to expel more rural Palestinian communities from their land, as they did in the days immediately following October 7.

Within hours of the war beginning on Saturday morning, the Israeli army shut all checkpoints across the West Bank and blocked roads between cities and villages with iron gates and earth mounds. It also installed new iron gates in locations where none had previously existed. Settlers brought in excavators to seal makeshift passages Palestinians had carved out over the past two and a half years, in areas where the army has kept roads closed since the start of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

I can't believe that after nearly two decades of absolute anti-vax hysteria her son appears to be fine.

I'm not challenging his diagnosis, but... his condition doesn't really match her rhetoric.

I want to emphasize that although this article is written in a manner that shows sympathy to the perpetrators of a genocide, I thought it was a valuable look into the ways that the genocide in Gaza is completely tearing apart the social fabric of Israeli society.

“Some people go into this with a deep sense of mission — of serving their team, their country, of doing something bigger than themselves,” she said. “But over time, that can blur into something else. It can make it easier to dehumanize the other side. I believe there has to be a space between committing war crimes and being killed. I pray we’re still in that space.”

[Ron Howard voice:] They were not.

Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University graduate who has been in immigration detention in Louisiana for more than a month, was barred from attending the birth of his firstborn child Monday, after immigration officials denied him permission to attend the birth in person, according to emails reviewed by CNN.

On Sunday morning, attorneys for Khalil wrote to Melissa Harper, director of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in New Orleans, requesting that Khalil be released from detention for two weeks so he could travel to New York and be with his wife when she delivered their son.

Khalil’s case has sparked a firestorm of controversy since he was arrested outside his Columbia University residence where he was living with his then-pregnant wife, a US citizen. ...

I just read this and thought... Jesus Christ, that's fucking ice cold.

I feel like they could've agreed to a 48 hour suspension in his detention just to be at the hospital and then carted him back to a remote swamp prison and still retained 99% of their Nazi cred. Hell, letting him hug his child and then disappearing him again is still ruthless as fuck. But no. That was still too much kindness for these sadists. Okay, noted.

My brother pointed out to me that in last week's episode of his podcast, Ezra Klein namechecked solarpunk in a blink-and-you-miss it mention:

“One common argument I heard on the left - Lina Khan made this point actually in our pages - was that this proved our whole paradigm of AI development was wrong. That we were seeing that we did not need all this compute, we did not need these giant companies, that this was showing a way towards a decentralized, almost solarpunk version of AI development, and in a sense the American system and imagination had been captured by, like, these three big companies.”

The context isn't as interesting as the quote. He was talking about different approaches to developing strong AI. It's only interesting because he used the term "solarpunk" in such a casual manner in a discussion that wasn't about solarpunk or even fiction. It reveals that it's in his vocabulary, and that he's ingesting this in his media diet. For those who don't know Klein, he's a very popular writer and journalist whose politics roughly resemble a quieter version of Elizabeth Warren's.

After hearing this, the thought occurred to me that what I'm witnessing is an idea spreading from a fringe group into a mainstream concept. Eventually, if it gets big enough with mainstream progressive liberals like Klein, I bet it'll one day get discovered and made into a boogieman on the right.

I wonder how long that will take? When is the first time I'll hear a clip of like, I dunno, Ben Shapiro shouting, 'Have you heard about this new thing they call SOLARPUNK???!? It's crazy! It's like... imagine a cyberpunk dystopia: but they want THAT with like, vines and TRANS PEOPLE everywhere! Some ruthless Soviet dictatorship but without even the cool cars or wonderful corporate innovation! It's just TRAINS and GARDENS instead! Ulgh!! [eyes bugging out for the thumbnail image]'

That might be interesting. I think that this idea has a viral quality, so perhaps I can look forward to that in 2025 or 2026. What do you folks think?
