It's a red-eared slider turtle! 🐢

This was photographic proof that NONE OF THE ROBOTS OF THE TECHNODROME could actually see these turtles. Because image recognition in the 1990s was shit.

Actually, this complex image of reptilian stealth pushes even human cognition, because back when I submitted this, I didn't even notice the second turtle in the top of the image, being very cute! Because all of my attention was drawn to the badass infiltrator at the centre of the image. Very turtley image indeed.

(If you need to know which AI thing this was sent to, this was Microsoft's experiment called captionbot.ai (no longer online), well before the current AI nonsense era. But I think it still serves a point! Turtles can sometimes skillfully avoid AI identification. ...I'll probably post about the other landmark case later on. Maybe.)

(Also, if modern AI had been kept as a niche tool for image captioning and other carefully considered applications, I'd not have been so critical of it. But here we are, the AI bros set the world aflame, and now we fight.)

Those white things are wasp larvae eating this manduca caterpillar from the inside out.

Parasitic wasps lay their eggs in it. The eggs are coated with a virus that temporarily turns off the manduca's immune system. When it's immune system reboots, it is tricked into thinking that the eggs are part of the caterpillar. The eggs hatch, and they eat their way out and turn into pupae and the cycle repeats.
